just some roses in the yard that are currently adding some beauty - perhaps a gift for yesterday's birthday girls, after all every woman deserves roses for her birthday!!

Very nice looking roses, Ed. I can't grow roses in this damp climate either. At one we had over 30 roses in the garden and we are now down to 6, only 3 of which are still doing ok. Nice photos.

There all so nice.  I really like the 3rd one.  My mother grows roses, her's are so beautiful.  She has many varieties.

thanks everyone!

Kim, if you are referring to the third photo that is Fragrant Plum. i thought i was getting a slightly darker variety when i got it but have been very pleased with it over the years. the third rose is the yellow and i'd have to go out and read the tag (if its still there) to say what variety it is. i tend to say that my favorite is "whatever's in bloom" but at this time of year that makes for a long favorites list!  :D

i also think i finally figured out how to get such big tall and huge bloomed roses like my neighbor - rose stake fertilizer and neglect! i didn't cut a single one back this last year and they have almost all grown up to look just my neighbor's giants that i have admired for years!

Those are beautiful. Huge luscious blooms.

I gave up on roses (fungal diseases) but Bob complained that it was wrong to live in Portland, the Rose City without any. So, I bought Knock Out and Midnight Blue last year. No fungal diseases  @O@

Great photos Ed.
Hey, in the first one that wouldn't be a new car blending with the rose colour would it?

Cheers,

Mike

I just love the lavender one. Is that what you referred to as a Fragrant Plum? Beautiful!  o(:-)

;D you got it Mike! i thought the car made a better background than the garbage cans they are hiding from the other angle!

Mikey - this is SF and if i gave my roses steroids, i swear i don't know anything about it!!!

Double S - you do realize you're one of the b-day girls, right? so go ahead and get right up close and sniff all you want!  ;)

LeeAnne - i guess i can't act cool and deny that my roses have any fungus. my MIL was just here and informed us exactly which one! going to have to get some more fungicide to at least keep it under control. been lucky so far - in 5 years we've only lost 2 roses. of course one of those was our first & favorite one - Playboy. we replaced it and the replacement is the one struggling the most this year!!  :'(

yes thepitclub, the lavender is the Fragrant Plum.

we are lucky to have a nearby nursery that specializes in roses and has a HUGE selection of them at reasonable prices. it takes me an hour just to narrow down my choices every time i go!! and i always end up buying at least one more than i have figured out a spot for. i try to only stop there once or twice a year.  ::)

Don't feel bad Monica, I can't grow them like that either! Mine always end up with fungus and amphids, etc. NEVER look like that. My Mum (who grows gorgeous, to die for roses) only lives about 1/2 hour away, and has the same growing conditions as I.
I guess some of us just weren't meant to grow roses.  ::)
