I rarely see one in a nursery in so cal, No way will they take the dry heat in my valley.

Ohhhh! Gorgeous! Really primordial.
I've seen them over on the coast in the LA area (Venice), not that big but they do pretty well in the fog belt.

The Gunnera dies back in the winter. I cover the crown with its own leaves as a winter protection
What you see is growth from about late April until now
