New blooms and new water gardens
« on: June 21, 2007, 10:55:34 AM »
Okay well, I got all my new misc. metal tubs set up- I love them  o(:-)  Here is the barrel:

And the double washtubs- I put the round washtub in front and partly underneath:

My bathtub is really filling up:

That's Almost Black making its debut in the bathtub:

Fabiola and Red Spider making their debuts in the double washtubs:

Moon Dance debuting in the square tub (w/ some kind of teeny orange bugs crawling around on it- it never opened all the way):

Mayla and Commanche:

And I have a hyacinth bloom too, Shanna  :harhar:

Things are really starting to look nice today- the first day of summer!   @O@  @O@  @O@

looking great joey!!   :2thumbs:

general question - is there no problem with growing lilies in the double tubs with all the rust in them? no harmful effect on ph or anything? i know i wouldn't want fish in with that but are the lilies going to be ok?

Thanks all for the compliments....By the way, the lilies shown today are brought to you by several of our very own forum members.  The following lilies were courtesy of the following people:

Red Spider and Almost Black - Lawanna
Mayla - Kat
Commanche - Bonnie (Bunny)
Thanks for some great lilies ladies  O0

Ed, I'm not sure about the rust having a negative effect on the lilies.  I plan on painting the inside of it with some kind of waterseal  paint after this season.  If the rust seems to harm the lilies though, I will drain it and do it sooner....  I had wondered about that myself, but didn't know if it was a valid concern.  If anyone knows about the effect the rust might have, please feel free to enlighten me  :)

I've never had any problems with lilies that have been in somewhat rusty stock tanks. This winter DH repaired pin holes in all of them and then primered them inside and out, then coated the bottoms with automotive undercoating. I had one tank that was pretty rusty on the inside but it didn't seem to have any effect on the lilies that were in it.

That is good to hear- hopefully mine will be unaffected by the rust then also.  I didn't think it would hurt them, but I didn't really know.   :D

i agree - good to know! i was just a bit concerned given what seemed like a lot of rust in those tubs. obviously the plan to refine them later seems like a good one because the danger of rusting thru and having even more work to do is always there. now i know that if i find something cool like that i can do the same and not be rushed to change. things that feel rushed tend to get put off and never done around here!!

and i certainly appreciate hearing from a voice of experience more than from some hypothetical 'supposed to be' resource. thanks Shanna!

looks great, plants look healthy.  I LOVE the washtubs I use to have some just like that, and a wringer washer, gave it all up for an automatic about 15yrs ago, but I still hang out.

I too have rusted stock tanks. It does not hurt the fish or lilies. And if they get too rusted I will put a liner in them. I have also burried 2 rusted out 8ft stock tanks and put liners in them. Both of those ponds cost me out of my pocket $0

Thanks all for the kind compliments  :)

Wow Vickie- $0?!?!  Way to go!  I have been diligently searching locally for a used stock tank all season, but no luck yet  :-\

Marla- only 15 years ago you gave up the manual washer??  I can't imagine washing clothes with one of those old wringer washers  :D

LeeAnne-  Nope, not aphids- I have had plenty of experience with the famous aphids unfortunately.  Not sure what these were, but definitley not aphids.  They were obling and a reddish orange color.... never saw them again after the first day that bloom was open  :search:
