A few new lilies in Bloom
« on: June 21, 2007, 07:22:27 PM »
Here are a few new lilies. The first shots are of Foxfire.
I have one in a spot that is shaded in the early morning and one in full sun to see which one will do better for me.

Here is General Pershing. It was my gift from the wife for Father's Day.

Thanks Joey, Sean & Mike.

Mike, it is one of Craig's new releases for this year.
Here is the description from Craig's site...
Quote
Nymphaea ‘Pink Flamingo' has maroon mottled pads and bright pink flower with a multitude of smaller inner petals reminiscent of ‘Midnight'. It was awarded second place in the 2006 IWGS New Waterlily Competition.

I think enzo still might have a few for sale if you are interested.

Me likes that Fox Fire, I have a small Pink Flamingo.  Can't wait for it to get big enough to bloom.  I think it has a beautiful bloom.

I have a question for ya, I have Rhonda Kay, but she doesn't want to open her blooms above the water.  There opening right under the water surface.  She's not real deep, I did raise her up a little more though.  Any suggestions?

Kim

Unfortunately I don't know Kim. I have some in kiddie pools and 1 big one in my main pond. They all hold their flowers 10" or so above the water.
Did it just recently get put into you pond?
I've had lilies not reach the surface before opening but that was usually my fault for relocating them too close to time for them to open.
The only one that is fairly often blooming or at least starting under water are some of my Nangkwags.
I know I'm not much help. Hopefully someone else will have an idea.

Sorry,

Tim

O0 O0 Tim, as always AWESOME JOB  O0 O0 One of those would sure look good in my pond  {:-P;;  ;) I may try some tropicals just to try my hand. What is the hardiest yet still striking (Something preferrably not red, pink yellow or white.

Hi chief,
Go here...
http://www.victoria-adventure.org/waterlilies/cultivar_gallery_tropical_day.html
It is a thumbnail view page of tropicals. You can look through the page and find a starting color that you like.
Your weather is like mine and maybe a bit nicer. I have just about all of the color spectrum that is out there at this point and most all of them do really well.
If you like purples, I really like Purple Zanzibar,Lindsey Woods, Midnight, King of Siam, Foxfire or Director George T.Moore. Incidentally if you see the purple lily that is in my member information on the left, that is the Purple Zanzibar. It is the darkest purple I have or have seen to date.
If you like blues, Star of Siam, the colorata and Woods Blue Goddess are some nice ones I have. The colorata and the Woods Blue Goddess create little tubers very easily so it would be tough to kill your plant for good since they like to reproduce so much.
You really need to try some tropicals. They should really do great for you.

Tim were you reading my thoughts?!  Thanks for the tip on blue trops,  I'm itching to raise something blue and you made the decision for me to find the colorata and Woods Blue Goddess.  Like the idea of fast growing tubers to share!   @O@

You don't usually have to wait for them to overwinter and tuber... They like to make babies all year long for me. I found that if I stop feeding them for a month or 2 they start sprouting babies. Sometimes they do it without my stopping the feeding but starving might speed up the process for you.

Your pond with the General Pershing and the Foxfire together is wonderful.  Love blues as I mentioned before but the Pink Flamingo is beautiful in color and shape too.  Love your lilies  @O@

I really like the Pink Flamingo- very unusual!  Even though I've fallen hard for the blue lillies, pink technically IS my favorite color.

miguynmkoi,
I actually had to rebuild that a few weeks ago for some lilies. It was where my wife's koi were before I built her new big pond for them. It had actually been in the garage for about a month or so.
I have 5 lilies in with the koi now. They kept taking all of the rocks out and throwing them into a pile on the bottom. I finally put in some broken cinder block pieces that they cannot pick up. 2 lilies are getting really big. The 3 I put in there last week have fought long enough that the koi are now leaving them alone.
thepitclub,
Purple followed by blues are usually my fave. The Pinkf Flamingo has such a distinct shape and texture that even if it is not my favorite color per se it is still quite striking.

Oh, Tim....since I raised my Rhonda Kay up that little bit (maybe 2 inches) I have been getting non-stop blooms way ABOVE the water.  I've had 3 full blooms now and 4 more buds on the way up.   @O@
