Night pond pics
« on: June 27, 2007, 11:20:12 PM »
I finally got a tripod set up and I've been playing with different settings tonight. I love sitting by the pond at night with the lights on the waterlily stems and the waterfall.  I have an led light on the waterfall that cycles through several colors.

Anyway, here's the best of the pics I got.

Wow, that is beautiful! It looks so relaxing. Do you have trouble with algae growing on the lights?

not normally a big fan of colored lights and night shots but those are beautiful. very elegant and intriguing just like the pond is during the daylight as well. tastefully done!  O0

thanks guys, I'm having fun with the tripod.  My next attempt is going to be catching the fish in mid-swim.

I was also a little dubious about getting the lights.  The minimalist in me was a bit appalled I think  :o  Then I put them in and discovered how much I like just sitting and watching the fish swim through the jungle of lily stems, it looks like a different world at night with the lights.  The one under the waterfall that changes color was the most adventurous for me, I do like it though and I have it pretty deep and hopefully not garish.  I have had a moment or two when I wondered if I had gone too far.  Oh well, even if I have I'm enjoying it and one of the pleasures of getting old is being able to just enjoy stuff and not worry too much about how others see it.

Yes, algae grows on the lens pretty quickly.  I notice that the light dims and gets even more mysterious so it doesn't bother me.  When I'm in the pond for another reason, I pull up the lights and clean off the algae.

I was trying to pic out my favorite out of them, but its too close.  That looks great, hmmm I have some (5) lights out in my little greenhouse just sitting in their boxes.  I think I used 1 for maybe a night playing with it.  Kind of forgot about them, thanks for the reminder.

Jonna, those pictures are awesome! I will now be adding a light or two in my planning of the new pond. Again, beautiful pond!

The minimalist in me was a bit appalled I think  :o

i think it was the minimalist in you that made it so end up working so well. just enough light to capture the highlights. lit like a 5 star restaurant and not like a roadside bar for raccoons!
