Dark blue Columbine Seeds Anyone? Gone!
« on: June 28, 2007, 08:59:28 AM »
I'm going to cut down the stalks if no one else wants them. I'm sending them free.
The plants stay under a foot but the flower stalks shoot up to three foot tall. Dark blue and perennial.

I wonder if they are perennial in zone 5? I'd love to have some too; be glad to send postage and handling as well. PM me.  :)

Everyone just PM me with your address. That way I have it go to my email program and can write on the envelopes without logging on to the forum. Tink, I have yours.

I have plenty.

They are very hardy.

I am not hugely experienced growing from seed. I think I'd scatter half of the seed now and the other half in spring. The plants are seeding now so why not? They are tiny tiny seeds.

It rained last night so I need to wait until they dry out or I'm afraid they will mold in transit. Supposed to be sunny this weekend.

I mailed them all on Saturday. You should receive Mon or Tues.

:D AFTER I mailed, I read on Garden Web that I should have used bubble wrap envelopes because the mail machines can smash seeds. I had no idea.  :D

Please let me know if your seeds arrive as dust and I'll send more in a bubble mailer. They are tiny seeds and I think they'll be ok but I'll suspend shipping anymore until I hear from everyone that they are ok. That way I'll have plenty to send again if necessary.

Yes, I have more. Now that I know they arrived safely. I thought they were probably too small to be crushed in mailing.

Sean, I know I owe you a daylily however, the one I had kept in the ground is huge this year. They were supposed to be dwarf like Stella d'Oro but are not. Do you still want it if it gets so big? It is over 2' tall and wide and only a year old. The one I've kept for you is potted and not that big but I thought that might be too big for your patio. No need to send me any Black Barlow, I'm sure they are cool but I've got too many Columbines. Thanks

Jerry, I need your address again. Sean I have yours. Jerryg I've got yours.

Hi LeeAnne,

Don't worry about the daylily, I got that package of reblooming dwarf daylilies I tried to acquire last year that includes Stella d'Oro, Little Business, Pandora's Box, Little Grapette, You Angel You and Strawberry Candy and I no longer have room for more daylilies. Once these ones get to blooming I will make some crosses and see if I can come up with my own hybrid reblooming dwarf daylilies.
Thanks for the columbine seed, I have the black barlow that is setting seed and a double blue/white that I am growing out from seed. I think the seed from you will be my limit for columbines as well.

Cheers,
Sean

Yes, Monica PM me with your address. Sorry, didn't mean to forget you.

Sean, do the others repeat like Stella? I know they are supposed to but do they?

I'd love to swap out some of the golden yellow for other colors!

Hi LeeAnne,

These ones are new to me just this year and Little Grapette and Stella D'Oro are the only two so far to send up a bloom spike. I will let you know. I only have between one and four plants of each so it will be a couple years before they produce clumps large enough to divide. I will certainly keep you in mind.

:)   I didn't mean that you had to send me any, (not that I'd turn them down) just that I'd replace some of my Stellas with others if they do repeat. :)

I bought some Happy Returns and they are a lighter yellow and they are supposed to bloom almost as long as Stella. I like the color better but they are bigger plants. Stella is just such a nice size.

:(  I don't know planting instructions for the Columbine seeds. I just let the plants go to seed and call it good.
