Forcing water lily seeds to sprout faster?
« on: July 04, 2007, 08:41:40 PM »
Has anyone tried forcing or encouraging seeds to sprout faster?

I love the hot water and sanding, the seed outer coat, with lotus seeds. They will show signs of sprouting with in 2 days!!

Any tricks with water lily seeds?

And from sprout to bloom is there an average growth period? How long it will take? I am trying to gauge if I have enough time this season or should I wait until next year.

Cheers,

Jeff

Heat and full sun will always do the trick.

Older seed becomes less viable the longer you wait. Fresh will germinate in a few days to a couple weeks depending.

Water as hot as 90F - 100F will get the fastest germination. Full sun will get them growing. When you get the first surface pads you can fertilize heavily.
