Third Day Flowers
« on: September 07, 2006, 01:29:49 PM »
Teresa asked for pictures, so here are a few.....third day flowers I like.  I for one think the 3rd day flower can make or break the whole lily.  Fading, burning, pinking I see as flaws.

Anyway...here are a few immune to those problems.  Not sure in what order they will appear, but they are Charlie's Pride(Winch), Morningstar (Sacher), Aquarius (Nutt) and an unnamed.

I like them all, but LOVE number one. The amount and color of the petals, and the contrast between petals & sepals is amazing.  :P Where can I buy it?

PS- That's what I love about this hobby. Just when you think you've seen everything, or start getting a little bored, something comes along that makes you go Ga Ga all over again.  O0

I love number one - sure stands out.  And number two is that color that I adore.  Three has a different shape and is so gorgeous.  And four is not to be ignored.  I couldn't pick a favorite if I had to . . . . they are all very pretty!  Thanks for posting them.

Number one is 'Charlie's Pride' and at this point I don't know for sure where you will be able to find it.  It is not widely available.

Number two is Rich Sacher's Morningstar....also not available unfortunately.

Number three is an unnamed seedling...and may well always remain so.

Last but not least is Aquarius, out there, but not common in the market.

I love aquarius and have since I first laid eyes on it's pic. . . . .

It makes little difference to me if they are commonly available or not . . . . I wouldn't buy them because it would be a certain death sentence and well, I just wouldn't.  But I certainly love to look at them and oh, how I wish I could smell them too!

Charlie's Pride & your unnamed are my first 2 picks although I sure the other 2 are splendid in person ... why do you tease us with lilies that aren't available, LOL  ;) ;)

There is never enough room for all of the water lilies that I want ;-)

Ahhh, Charlie's Pride. I will remember that for my wish list. Maybe it was your photographic skill (getting better I might add) that made that lily pop for me. But gosh, it is truly gorgeous.

And, yeah, Kat is right!  &-) Cut that out!  ;) (JK)

Hey Craig! Its been a long time! I made it home earlier today and everything is blooming strong. Charlie's Pride was blooming to but then it started pouring rain like just about every day! I really like Sacher's Morning Star. On my notebook the chartreuse seedling looks to have purple/blue tips--i like that--maybe a replacement for my Moon Beam since its so much fuller? Hunter's Moon is still going strong too. I'm doing maximum credit hours this semester so barely any free time but I'm still into aquatics. I'm near campus in an apt so here is my low-tech aquarium--basically its a moss tank.

Broken link

Its a 20gallon with baby wakin, ghost shrimp, and one or two snails. I used the mosses to wrap the driftwood and the substrate is reef sand. For the plants:

Java Moss
Stringy Moss
Willow Moss
Taiwan Moss
Pelia
Spiky Moss
Weeping Moss

Cool huh?
