Wife's New Baby... 6" Platinum Ogon
« on: July 08, 2007, 03:38:33 PM »
Here a few shots of Wife's New Baby... it is a 6" Platinum Ogon.
We've been looking for quite a while to find one that wasn't the equivalent of a car payment.
Finally we struck gold.... well actually platinum.  @O@

We've been looking at the auction sites with that type specifically in mind.
In my search I found a little known koi seller in my city.
Went to her shop and found this along with one other that were still under quarantine as they had only been shipped from Japan 3 days earlier.
We put a hold on it. It was a good thing as another customer bought the other one and was offering quite a bit more money to have the set.
Fortunately the shop owner was good to her word.

Wow! She's beautiful!

I have a confession, most koi that I see at koi phen and other sites really leave me cold.  I just don't see the attraction, most of them are too bulky looking and I think they are just ugly fish.  Ugly fish that cost a fortune! I don't know what I'm missing but I like fish that look graceful and beautiful not like an aquatic bull dog.  Anyway, this is a beautiful fish to me, which may be a bad sign  ;) , I hope it stays beautiful and graceful.

Thanks Jonna, miguynmkoi, Ruthie & LuvMyFish.
Billy... I would love to see some photos.

jools, I am not an expert on koi... we go for what we like as opposed to a purist in the koi community. Most of ours are butterfly.
To quote from Kodama Koi Farm...
Quote
Kin Ginrin:
Kin Ginrin indicates the group of varieties that has diamond scales on the entire bodies.
Hikari Muji:
Hikari Muji indicates varieties that have a solid metallic color such as Ogon, Platinum.
Our new baby has metallic scales on the entire body. She is a Platinum Ogon and as far as I know that places her in the Hikare Muji class but you will have to let me know if that is incorrect.

I have a big one like that. Anyway it has the beautiful sequined scales like that. I have had it 3 yrs. It is big now. But  would you believe I got it at walmart for about  $6. It might not be the exact fish, but it is beautiful any way. I will try to take a picture of it.
