Something I did over the weekend...
« on: July 23, 2007, 06:51:50 PM »
I took a 100 gallon pond & made it into a 770 gallon pond ... o(
One of my ponds sprung a leak , I found the hole about 5" down . Luckly I had a spare Firestone liner . It turned out it was too big ,so I decited to make a box from some landscapeing timbers I had bought earlier this year to make some benches with ...oooh well mabe next year I can make those benches... ;D

Finished out to be 7.5' x 5.5' x 2.5' .

hmm, i seem more empty spots in the background... ;D

looks great. i wish i could talk my better half into something like that.

i had a corkscrew this year that got like that so i pulled out the kitchen knife and cut some chunks off the sides about the diameter of what it was when i started it, and sent them out with trades. now the original fits where i want it and some other folks can have the same problem next year!!  ;)

Looks great Bonnie!  I've thought about doing a timber lined pond for lilies  :).  Don't know what dh would say about it though  ;D.

Is your pond entirely above ground, or is some of it dug into the ground?

After seeing the many photos here of people with ponds framed by landscape timbers above ground, I'm realizing I could greatly expand my pond's capacity without digging any more (there is NO more room in my tiny yard), by going UP instead of OUT.

It's half in ground & half out .

GREAT job Bonnie!!  What a pro!  Got me ready to do the same thing!!  How did you attach the logs at the corners?

I used the 3" screws ( the kind that has a small square in the middle , my bro picked them up for me & I forget what he called them ) to hold the ends together.
I put the timbers together by useing a drill bit bigger than the 3" screw . I drilled the hole's about 1/2 way down in the frist timber . That way it would hold both the top timber & bottom together. About 4 screws on the top of each board .

I've got another 100 gal. pond I think I'll convert like this, I like how this look's . ;D

Thank you all for your comments , they're appreacited .

Your's looks GREAT ! Will u have much trouble with green water & Algae ? With the liner being the light blue ? I'm wondering cause a neighbor got some pool liner for free a few years ago & she has a
terrible time with green water . Her's is in full sun , maybe that make's a diffrence ?

LeeAnn & Desertponder.....this corkscrew grows like a weed for me ! I trimmed it back in the Spring & welll it really grew ! Must've loved the trimming .

Nope...once it cycles thru then it will be fine.....I have 3 tanks lined with it already...the oldest one is going on 4 years now....it has a nice coat of fuzz algae on the sides and bottom.... once it gets that--its a really dark color anyways....

Lawanna, did you build your pond with the same method as Bonnie's?  Yours may be on ground, right?  You did a great job too!

Annette yes its all above ground...here in OK. It will be fine with the depth-right at 21" and all it will have in it is goldies..plus this is really a sheltered area of the yard it is directly behind one gh and has another gh just to the left of it....we used huge nails with grooves at the ends of them to put it together....hubby couldn't even take the nails out with a pry bar....

I thought you were kidding about the Corkscrew Rush.. there I didn't want to be a pig and only took a small division of it! ;)

I ended up throwing most of it out cause I couldn't get anyone to take it off of my hands.

It looks great Bonnie, yours too Lawanna!

Hmmmm, I was just wondering.....

How long before one of us doesn't stop digging and ends up with an ENTIRE YARD that has been turned into a pond? Or maybe someone already has?
If you can't buy on the lake, bring the lake to you? ;)
