Newbie says Hi
« on: July 30, 2007, 09:31:39 PM »
Hi,
Just wanted to introduce myself. My real name is Dianne, but since we put in a pond a couple of months ago, my son-in-law has dubbed me, crazy fish lady. I suddenly have trouble getting anything done. I just stare at my fish. These are some of my new children.

These are some pics of the pond. Next year hope to finish the landscaping and add some larger boulders at the bends in the stream. Filtration is only a river rock bog at top. Seems to work pretty well.

I hope to learn a lot from all of you, as I am a true newbie.
Dianne,
I'm really not crazy, I just talk to my fish.

Welcome aboard Dianne.  What a neat and natural looking pond.  Great job.  I like your koi too, especially Ghost.

Welcome Dianne!!  Your koi kids are beautiful.  I like your stream and pond setting!  No wonder nothing gets done!  My pond is way smaller and I spend more time there than anywhere else = messy house and weedy garden  8)

I am new here, too....welcome!  I have already learned so much here.

Your pond is beautiful!  We put ours in about three months ago and I am a lot like you.  I find myself kind of mesmerized by the fish.  I could stay out by the pond all day.   o(:-)

Hi Dianne, that's a great looking pond you've built, it fits so nicely into the landscape.  I'm interested to know more about your rock bog; how big, how deep?  Does it show in the pictures you posted or is it hidden at the top of your stream?  emm

Emm,
My rock bog is at the top of the stream. It is about 7' long, 3' wide and 2.5' deep. The 2 (4,500gal/hr each)  pump hose outlets are buried in it. It overflows to creat the streams. I have plants in the rock around the perimeter and barley straw floating. We add Clarity Max weekly. The water is really clear, it's magic. We have no other filtration other than the skimmer. People talk about sludge in the bottom of their ponds, but so far I don't have anything but rock. Maybe a different story when the fish grow, though.
Dianne,
I'm really not crazy, I just talk to my fish.

What a beautiful pond, and your koi are beatiful too.  Ghost is my favorite too, your landscaping is awesome.

I can relate, I spend way too much time outside too.  My mom always says I care more what my yard looks like than my house.  Well in one way she's right.  One time she stopped by and I had laundry on the couch, and I was outside.   When she walked into the house, she just stopped and looked.  She said you've got your priorities mixed up.  I asked why do you say that.  She said look at that.  I said I'll get to it when the sun is down.  That's when she said, you care more about your yard than your house.  I said your right....people don't see my laundry driving down the road, but they do see my yard.   :teehee:  (I can't help it that I think she's related to Martha Stuart, her house is so perfect.  My house is clean, just no perfect....its lived in)

Gorgeous pond and beautiful fish.  I too can just sit and watch the fish endlessly, or putter around tweaking off dead leaves in the pond.

We have a golden butterfly named Angel too, I think we are going to have to start pronouncing it Ahn-hell though, I think she is a he.

What a beautiful pond and fish!  No wonder you enjoy it so much.  My pond is right next to my deck, we like to sit next to it and enjoy it.
