What are these?
« on: July 31, 2007, 07:58:59 AM »
my mom has these flowers and this tree in her yard and we have no idea what they are. The tree was purchased from burgess and it was supposed to be a paulowina (spelling probably wrong) but it doesn't flower and it isn't growing as fast as they say a paulowina is supposed to, and the flowers she got from people.

No tree grows as fast as those ads in the Parade magazine by Burgess say they do. Ditto the tomatoes.

Looks like Paulownia to me.

The yellow and orange flowers look like Calendulas. I don't know the purple flower.

You think it is paulownia even though it doesn't bloom?

Looks like a paulownia to me.  They do grow fast,  30 feet in 3-4 years.  Is yours getting enough water?

I think the purple flowers are Balsam or Lady's Slipper.
Dianne,
I'm really not crazy, I just talk to my fish.

The tree is probably 7 years old and is only about 20 -25 feet tall.  I know my parents don't water it and they have clay soil.  Would the clay soil stunt the growth and why doesn't it bloom?

Could be a factor. If it is constantly drought stressed it may not have the energy to bloom.
