Empress lotus
« on: July 31, 2007, 08:59:27 AM »
OK  folks, it finally bloomed.   The rake in the picture is taller than me.  It's 5 feet 10 inches tall!  I thought this one was Angel Wing but it's Empress!??!   Oh well she's lovely.  Please pardon the hand and arm in the picture but It's 6 feet 2 inches to the base of the bloom......I have to get a picture somehow!    The next bud to open is 6 feet 4 inches to the base of the bud.......I'm gonna have to get a ladder.  {:-P;;

I echo the others that lotus is huge. I thought the blooms were big on my lotus were  but they are dwarfs compared to it. Is it a tropical ? Thanks for sharing. O0

It just came to me "light bulb on."  If I lotus pads that large I would love to make steam rice wraps with fresh leaves.  Yummm  8-)~   Even meat wrapped in these pads over a low charcoal grill.

Has anyone tried that with their lotus pads.

Wow!  O0  How is that planted?

Mystic Dragonfly, we don't have long enough season on this side of the mountains either. Harbor Freight has an inexpensive greenhouse that I got last year. It costs more than the greenhouse to accessorize it for winter but I'm having fun with tropicals that I could never get to bloom/thrive before.
