How big is your pond Joey? My ponds are 700 and 800 gallon. I got a shop vac from Lowes that has an automatic pump out function. It's not perfect, algae can clog the intake sometimes but it does a good job of debris removal for the most part.

Kay, does yours shut off in a few minutes because the tank is full and the pump can't pump out as fast as the vac can suck in? Mine does. Hate it. Haven't used it in a year. Did this every time. It overheated really bad too.

Mine shuts down if algae gets around the filter inside it (not the foam one, the other one) and clogs that up but if I keep that clean it will suck as long as the hose is lower than the motor. I get the same issue you do if I try to use it in my above ground. It doesn't overheat for me though. Even with those issues it works better than anything I've used.
