Hey Jerry - Why all the spiders?
« on: September 13, 2006, 06:30:49 PM »
Seems like every time I've signed on today there's been at least one spider here.  Several times there were two and once there were three!!  What's up with that?   We must be important to rate all the arachnids!!!!

Hi Teresa,

The spiders are the different search engines looking over our forum and updating their information as they crawl the web. The three top spiders we get are from Google, Yahoo and MSN.

This is good news for us, it means the very information we post to the forum is being picked up by the top search engines and being made available to others as they search for information.

Cheers,
Sean

LMAO... I had a spider here today, only had 4 legs........... and then since it was trying to get into my hair it only had 0....... I draw the line at cuddling with spiders you realize. Snakes and octapuses are hard enough to deal with.........

I've noticed them too Teresa.

Spiders are sort of like cyber robots that surf the internet for search engines like Google.
They find websites, gather info on them and then bring it back to the host search engine.

What the heck is a cockeroach?

I was just curious as to why so many in one day . . . . . I've seen them here before, but never so many at a time.  Is Wednesday send out the bugs day?

If you look at the users online, the spiders are listed below the users.  If they weren't, none of us would know when they are here.  There's one on now.

Oh I get it!  Won't confuse me again, Jerry!  I think that's a pretty appropriate term and it's a heck of a lot nicer than the one I was using.

On the main forum page, go down to the "Users Online" area. This where members, guests and "Spiders" can be seen when on line and viewing the forum. The only purpose behind having this feature installed was really for me to see when the major search engines were crawling our forum. Before this installed software, the spiders came up as Guests and I could never figure out why so many people were not logging into the site. This helps differentiate between search engines, members and true guests.

Cheers,

Joyce's pic made me dig for one of my own ... As Croc Dundee would say, "Now THAT's a spider!

the perspective between the spider and the ruler is a bit deceiving, but I wouldn't want her crawling up my pant leg!!! lol
