My DIL's $100 jeans
« on: August 20, 2007, 06:59:47 PM »
Dawn bought a pair of jeans at a second hand store. She decided she wanted capris instead and cut them off and rolled up the bottom of the legs. Then she asked me if I could hem them and put a paisley design going up the one leg and something on the opposite hip front. I had to rip the side seam on the leg up almost to the groin to get the leg fabric in the hoop, hem both legs bottoms, redo the seam on the leg bottoms so the frayed seam edges wouldn't show, use clamps on the hoop to do the hip area because the material by the pocket was so thick the hoop wouldn't hold it, hold the hoop (40 minutes)with my hands all the while the machine did the upper design because the jeans were too heavy and the hoop wouldn't move correctly because of the weight, and sew the leg seam back together. I fiddled with it off and on most of the afternoon and evening. Hope she likes them and wears them. Again my camera didn't like doing the closeups.

Oh, I'm sure she will love those.
If you charged for your time, they would definitely be worth $100.

O0 One of a kind are worth much more!  Esther you did a fabulous job.  All the tedious work and patience you put into it make these pants very special.

Thanks folks.

LOL @ Cindi. I knew I'd hear about that. It's still sitting in the box. I just can't seem to get around to figuring it out with all the hubbub this summer.

Esther it's much easier than you think.  Once you start using it you'll kick yourself for not taking it out sooner.  Just force yourself to get it out and put it on Auto to begin with and you'll be well on your way.  Glad you found humor in my statement though.   ;)

You are braver than I to get that done on premade jeans!  Great job!

Oh Kat, thanks for the good words. I forgot a professional was here to see my work. But you're right, it is a regular pain in the neck to work on premade stuff like those pantlegs. I don't think I would have done it for myself but she is the mom of my little grandson Braeden who's sick with the cancer and it makes me feel good to be able to do something for her that makes her happy.
