Meet Ginger (More pics added)
« on: August 26, 2007, 09:55:41 PM »
We found a pup today. She's 9.5 weeks old, an Australian Shepard, Retriever, Ridgeback cross. She's very sweet and our son is delighted. I don't normally like to post personal photos but just thought you would appreciate this one.

Pete and I still really miss Whylie and Ginger has some pretty bigs paws to fill but we are sure she will be a wonderful dog too.

Now that put a smile on my face.

They both seem to be enjoying each other. This will give you and your son many things to focus on and stay busy with.

She's beautiful! Like the others said, it looks like they already bonded.  She looks like she definitely has big enough paws to fill the ones that are empty!  :)

Thanks every one. Ginger is doing very well. She's loves to cuddle with all of us, is doing well with house training and already knows to go as soon as we take her outside. Our son is delighted with her and hasn't wanted to leave her all day. We had to put her kennel in the hallway for a while this afternoon so she could get a much needed nap. He's very sweet and just wants to pet and feed her.
I didn't get much sleep last night but that's ok. The cats are a bit uneasy but will come around soon. They have been through this before and always end up being friends with our dogs.
There's no time for any more photos today but will post some as soon as I do. I just got back from dropping a relative at the airport and have quests coming for dinner. I had better get busy in the kitchen.

Here are a few photos taken this morning. She has the retriever personality, just love me and love me some more and all will be well. She follows one of us around and then plunks herself down to be pet or just falls asleep. We have to be careful not to step on her. So far she very quiet, but that will change I'm sure.

She already sits for her food so that's a good start. She's going to be a big dog so training will be important. We are already working on it and so far she's doing well for a young pup.

Thanks every one. Ginger is a sweet heart already. We really love her and our son is delighted with her. I just took her to the airport to pick up our daughter who was vacationing in Georgia and the Carolinas with two friends. We didn't want to upset her vacation and didn't tell her about Whylie so she was surprised to see me with a pup at the airport. Anyway Ginger sat on her lap all the way home and although she's very upset about loosing Whylie she thought Ginger was pretty nice.

Maryvonne,
The last dog, Tyler, we had before our 2 present ones was my son's 'best bud' as he called him. When he died from a sudden, unexpected illness Quinn (son) was devastated. We planned to wait until school was out to get another one, figuring we would all have more time to train a new one, but only lasted 2 weeks. We all missed Tyler so bad we soon found oursleves at the local animal shelter. Out of all the pups we looked at one walked right over to Quinn, licked his face then climbed up on his lap and snuggled in for a nap. Needless to say we came home with him. They have been best friends ever since, 7 years now. We named him Takota which means 'a friend to everyone', quite fitting for him. Anyway......I just wanted to comment on how animals tend to know what you need. Ginger will fill a big void, but I know she will do it very well.
Best wishes for all of you.

She is just adorable.  Retriever personality, that's great.  I love my Lab much more than my pugs (my girl pug drives me nuts)...shhhsh don't tell them I said that.  They learn so quick, and so eager to please.

My BFF (that does mean Best Friend Forever doesn't it? ) has a dog that is part Lab and part Ridgeback among others I'm sure but those two are apparent. She is very sweet and smart. She also does a funny smile thing with her upper lip.

Maryvonne, I was catching up on all the posts from the past month or so and was so sorry to hear about your dog, Whylie. So nice to see that you and your family have found another dog to love. Ginger will be a great friend I'm sure. The cats will teach her who is the boss real soon :)
