Long time, no chat!!
« on: September 25, 2007, 07:06:44 PM »
I've been MIA for a bit!

I don't think I even mentioned it here, but on Memorial day weekend, we inherited DH's grandma in our home. My house is already busy enough with two boys running around, but we had to help her out for a few months. We eventually got her into a specialist in the area and then moved her into a retirement community two weeks ago. It was a long summer, and not a fun situation, but she needed our help and we acomplished that!

Also this summer, I had to study like mad for part 2 of my board exam. It's only offered once a year and is $550, so I really wanted to take it seriously. There is one main text book in my field that is about 1000 pages. I pretty much re-read it cover to cover, taking notes on the whole thing, and then made 200 or so notecards from my notes. I had every equation and example in the book understood and memorized. The exam was at the end of August, and I just got the results Saturday--I passed! Now I'm off to the final (oral) exam in Louisville, KY, in June of 2008. I'll probably start studying up now, even though it's 8 months away! If I pass the orals, I'll be fully board certified and will get a promotion.

My other big project is that I am applying to two Ph.D. programs in my area and hope to start one in January. It won't be easy since I work full-time and have a family, but I figure it will be easier now than later!

My lilies are still in patio ponds on the deck, but are doing well. So are the baby koi Kat gave me! I am most impressed with a bag of taro tubers from an Asian market that have filled one flower bed in my back yard. I think the whole bag was maybe $2-3!!

What all have I missed here? How is Braeden? Karen, have you made any new lego animations? I suspect everyone is starting to get more free time as the seasons change!

You have been really very busy!!  It's nice to see a familiar name again.  Sounds like you have accomplished many things for your family and yourself.  Congrats on your studies!

Jessica, you are so cool! Honestly, if I could accomplish as much as you have (at your age)  I'd be very happy. I'm glad you passed your board (bored?) exams! You are lucky to have your DH's grandma... what a wealth of "old person" information!
I have not created any new Lego animations, mostly due to the schedule and intimidation  :o ;) by the many talented Lego animators.

However, we are having lots of fun building a Harry Potter "town". My poor pond is suffering because we are playing with little plastic bricks...  ;D

Little Matthew got his cast off today! We are so happy!

Thank you guys for your kind words! After taking the boards, I started reading the Harry potter series. DH read them to Dylan as they came out and I overheard most. In the last month I read books 1 and 2 and am 1/4 throught the third. I just love the Weasley family!!

I look forward to catching up!

Hey!  Nice to see you!  Congrats on your boards!  I want 1/2 of your energy!
Tammie
P.S. - My daughter will be moving to Austin in about a month.  She'll either be in law school soon, or she's applied to the Austin Police Dept.  Hope it's law school that happens!

Jerry, USC won't hold that #1 spot forever! :)

Tammie, we just went to Austin city limits music fest the weekend after we moved DH's grandma out. Does this mean you'll be coming to Texas to visit? I owe you a dinner, at least! ;)

Congratulations on your accomplishments. Notice I said "s". Dealing with Grandma couldn't have been easy. I hope it was a relatively good experience for you all. I remember my great grandma living across the street from us from time to time with my grandparents. Even though I was maybe 8 or so, I have fond memories of her. Not many kids have memories of their great grandparents.

You sure have a lot of energy. Or maybe it is gumption you have. LOL. I bet a lot of the time you are pretty much going on that. "One foot in front of the other."

I'll compose a separate thread about Braeden. Thanks for the thought and inquiry.

Congrats Jessica!

I've missed you but you have a good reason(s) so I /we'll forgive you! ;)

So nice of you to help out Grandmother.. it's a hard thing when our Parents and Grandparents get old.

Will you have just alittle extra time when you go to Louisville?
If so maybe some of us can meet up there and have a bite to eat and chat a bit..  Kim and Tink live close and I could drive down with Bonnie(bunny) Christy and Monica or anyone else from the Southern Indiana/Ohio bunch.

Take Care,
Bonnie

Congrats!

Bonnie was thinking what I was when I saw Louisville, Ky in 2008.  That's where I live, that would be nice if all of us got together for lunch.

Kim

Ponds are like patato chips, ya just can't have one.
