It was an ordeal. Thank you for hanging in and not losing confidence with us. All this occurred over $14.95 !!!!!! hard to believe isn't it? Sean and i spent hours on this as did El Jefe. The chief did it on his own and had excellent input.
Do let fellow members that you are in contact with, that we are UP & RUNNING!

It seems our Domain carrier (wrong term i know) did not advise us that out domain was due to be renewed. We have (Sean) in the past tried to transfer the name, but got no cooperation.
I now have a physical address for Globat and I promise you they will NOT be happy to see me.
I never did reach them on the phone as I was advised to do, but was able to do a "type Chat" with a Dakota in billing. Dakota was excellent. She said we'd be "UP" in 3 to 4 hours. It was more like 3 or 4 minutes.
Saturday I actually drove to their "office" Ha, some office, it was a postal drop, a sleazy one at that. I now have their real office address. I will achieve the transfer , with Sean's help, by showing up at their place of business.

Good job! I had a similar issue with an old provider and when I drove 45 minutes to their address it was a "mail boxes etc" mail bank (post office box) needless to say I was pissed. I lost two perfectly good sites over it. Long story but eeriely similar to what happened here.
Glob@t informs me that they will transfer the domain name but it must be done through their billing department billingdesk@globat.com they will need to give you a transfer number. once you have it you can transfer it.

I do have a question though?
Apparently many of us got emails about this problem but some did not.. is this because they don't have 'email from Admin' or something like that, checked in their profile page???

Might be a good thing for some to do if this is the case so they can be notified when things like this happen?

Jerry I knew that you would not intentionally shut the doors, especially without any prior notification.

I sent a few emails to folks who wrote me. I also asked them to advise others that they are in touch with. A contingency plan is a good idea Bonnie.The problem that cause this was ridiculous.

What an ordeal this has been and could have been prevented.
I will not mention any names but I curse the day that Jerry's first webmaster set up the initial account with Glob@t.com
What a pain in the ass they have turned out to be, even more than a year after we left them as our server and we are having problems with them.

To all who are wondering, I did send out an email to the membership from the site, the reason many of you did not receive it is the mail server for American Ponders stopped responding when the domain expired, so only a few emails were processed before the mail server went down.
I tried to access the membership mail database to try and send a message from my home email but once the domain was down I could not access the information. I did have a copy of member email addresses but the last time I collated them was over a year ago and less than half of the current membership so I chose not to try and duplicate the message when I did not know just how many people got the message in the first place.

The good part of this whole ordeal was the timing, it is still winter and less than 10% of our membership has been checking in. Other than these few posts about the domain being down, I am sure most people will not even be aware it happened.

For those of you who were anxiously awaiting our return, thanks for being patient.

Joyce once made a funny comment. I was growing "Zac" tomatoes. this prompted her to say, Zac sticks in my throat. LOL

He was a bright but acerbic kid. He would ask a question on the forum, get great replies and reject them all. Mikey and Esther were extra good to him. And tried to counsel him.No Luck!
He had no tact and would upset many here. Hopefully this talented kid has matured.

I have to add my "so glad we're back" to the rest of 'em! I tried every way possible to access American Ponders, and it just wasn't there,,,I really felt bereft. All my friends were gone and I didn't know how to find them. Kind of like that commercial where that guy is standing there looking for his car that has been stolen,,,an out of body experience with a white rabbit sinking into a hole and bunches of eyes in a wall....(anyone seen it?

)It really felt weird like I was the only one out there and fell into a black hole! Thanks for all that you do for us

I posted my funny experience before AP went out. The day before late in the afternoon I dug and snapped my cable line in half while gardening. Had to stop everything and call the cable guys to get out here. They couldn't come until next morning!!! Meanwhile suffered NO COMPUTER!!! OK I lied, stole someone else's airtime. Come Friday morning got cable back and jumped back on the computer and AP. Later in the day AP was no where to be found. I thought I really screwed up the cable, this time! Tried all evening, went out with DH, came back and tried AP...that's when the withdrawal symptoms kicked in and the fingers twitched towards the therapists phone number......

at least that's what I say now

Glad to see this site is back and running! I was worried to say the least. I know I don't contribute much but I do enjoy getting on here and seeing what's going on... I searched web sites and found garden web and someone on there said what was going on! Thanks, Jerry, Sean and El Jefe for all your hard work. I really do enjoy this site and would miss it very much!
