Lillies Padded Out - Sure Sign of Spring!
« on: February 29, 2008, 04:01:38 PM »
All of my 99c PetSmart lilies are now full of pads, reaching the surface of the water.  Two of them had pads all year; the other two started a couple of weeks ago, and they've now reached the top of the water.

Since this will be their second year, with a little fertilizer, perhaps I'll even have blooms soon!

You have got to get some pics on here, would love too see them.  You pond sounds nice, and would like to see some signs of spring.  Need a pick me up here in KY.  Nice all weekend and calling for either lots of heavy snow or lots of rain Monday night through Tuesday morning.  They don't know which we'll get, just depends on which way it travels...lol

Ponds are like patato chips, ya just can't have one.

I noticed that the Marsh merrigold is really comming along as is the bog beans, I even noticed a new flag startting to come up on a varigated sweet flag. I got out the trusty tolit brush and started getting some of the long Algae but my hands could not stand the cold for long so didn't get far. I guess I need to buy a new thamomiter as I pulled mine out and it read like 20 something at the bottom.  :o Now we know that can't be right :-\ My fish slowly came over and munched on some of that crap but stayed deep in the warmer water. Can't wait for it to warm up a bit more so I can get out the old vaccume and clean off the bottom.Maybe in a month or so?

Since it was really nice here Saturday I got out and did a little bit of work outside. I noticed that some of my lilies are starting to get their pads too.
I pulled up a few of the marginals from the bottom of one tank and they were all green and growing. I actually decided to get one of my
whiskey barrel watergardens going and I put a few of the plants in it that were really starting to grow.  :)
