I read in growing tips somewhere to plant 2 or 3 tubers per tub for fuller looking plants.  Maybe plant a runner with a tuber and see what happens.

I always have some runners and some tubers left over from dividing....I usually throw all the runners into one big pot...and they do make it---thing is with runners they are more delicate---and die off easier.....also they don't usually produce blooms the first year....

Could someone please post a picture of what a runner looks like?  I'd like to know the difference as well.

In my experience (35+ years of growing lotus), runners are best discarded since only one out of a dozen will survive, and then take years to produce blooms.  Healthy lotus tubers are too easy to grow to mess with runners.  If you have the time and want to experiment, go ahead, but do not expect immediate success.

This is a Thread Tink started a week or so ago...the top pic is a tuber...the bottom one you can see several runners....Runners are usually thin, soft and quite leggy , tubers are firm and fat(gosh guys I've tried to word this different several times--but, it still doesn't sound nice...so just keep your minds out of the gutter  lol)

Thanks Lawanna.  I read that before, but it just didn't click.  I get it now.

So what about the inbetween's that look like runners but have growing points with leaves showing. Are they worth planting?

Kay I would say so...I sometimes have those that look something like a runner but, also resemble a tuber...they have always done fine for me......quite honestly the only thing I won't plant are seeds  >:(- they frustate me to no end.....they do soo well and then BAM- die off  >:(-.....And they are not true to color so I usually collect them and give them to friends who want to piddle with them....
