I got ampla seed off ebay a few weeks ago. So far no sprouts.

Hi Vicki,

I have seen that on ebay, but I have had no luck with their seeds either.

I may have to just go and 'aquire' some from the south Florida area. Just am trying to a void all the driving.  :-\

I know that Craig P. uses it for parentage of his water lilies and many of the old time water lily crossers used it  too.

Cheers,

Jeff

Jeff good luck. If you find any extra seeds and want to sell them let me know. I bought 50 and split them in half with a friend. So far no sprouts. Figures. That is why I want ampla I want species.

The only problem with acquiring seeds of N. ampla is that you do not know if it is pure.
Most likely it won't be. It sets seed fairly well. If it was not caerfully self crossed you could get any number of hybrids out of the batch.
Since they would not be the species at that point it might not help in your crossing experiments.
A lot of the N. ampla hybrids themselves are sterile or very stingy in seed setting.
Just an FYI.

Hi Tim,

Yea, the seed thing could be a problem. But so far the chance of buying a plant has not presented itself.

I have found two sources, but both will not sell the plant and have other things to do besides set ampla seeds.

So the search continues. I have a few locations in south Florida that in the past have had wild ampla growing, but with these outrageous gas prices a long drive is not yet cost effective.

Cheers,

Jeff

Jeff,
As I told you last year, I am sure I could get one.
The problem is I would have to pay full retail on it.
I paid $45.99 for mine 2 years ago. So it would end up being that plus shipping.
I keep it blooming fully almost all year for cross attempts so it does not shut down for tuber production.

enzo buys directly from Craig. He may be able to get you a better deal on an N. ampla. Try messaging him.
