Steve, just last year a night rider was killed here.
No one even knew until a dog walker found the man and his motorcycle in the bushes at the side of the road...and deer gore.
He had been there at least 2 days. :'(
Not telling Jamie, but I am pretty sure it was a pregnant doe.
When I was picking up the wheel well off the road, and the other parts of the Jeep off the road, I had to walk by the deer.
This was about 4-5 telephone poles back behind my car, far enough so Jamie couldn't see much details of the deer.
I could see her stomach moving, and it looked like she was pregnant and there was a baby kicking around inside.
I was SOOO freaking out, but had to locate my missing license plate. Bill was walking around too looking for it and yelled at me not to look at her.
Guess I was frozen in place for a while. The deer was watching me, laying on her side and panting. Bills yell snapped me out of it.
This was all on a road called the North Road by locals, but Route 48 on the map.
Right where we hit the deer (it actually ran into us) was where it becomes a 4 lane from a 2 lane.
So I was walking around picking up the pieces on my Jeep in the striped area as the 2 lanes branch out into 4.
Cars were whizzing by on each side, misty-foggy-drizzling cold at dusk...not very safe cuz a lot of cars use the striped area to pass slower cars before they merge into the 2 lane area.
(we were headed the other way) 2 cars stopped and asked if everyone was OK... both were Hispanic. Nice people.
