Dutch Iris (Iris Hollandica) can I put in watergarden?
« on: May 03, 2008, 07:42:50 PM »
Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone knows if I can plant this type of Iris in a watergarden tub, with shallow water over the pot?

I've tried searching and some sites say keep moist, while others say just damp.

I would like to dig them up and move to one of my containers in more sun if I can.

Thanks all,

I'm pretty sure they would rot if they were kept wet.

Josh,

I kind of figured that since they are bulbs and not rhizomes or tubers.

Well, if you have a lot, why not dig some up and give 'em a try?  Maybe you could figure a way to raise them a bit, so they stay damp, rather than wet.

I have bearded Iris and Siberian Iris in my bog and along the stream in rock and bare root. They do fine even over wintered when there isn't any water in the stream or bog.
Dianne,
I'm really not crazy, I just talk to my fish.

I'm with Julles, if ya got enough why not try it.  Ya, know the old saying you'll never know, unless you try.

Ponds are like patato chips, ya just can't have one.
