sun burned pads
« on: May 05, 2008, 03:22:19 AM »
I can't figure out why the lily pads would get all dried out started from the edge if they grow higher than water surface. I saw lilies that are sold in one gallon pots with pads hanging over the pots in full sun and the pads are just fine, so it couldn't be from hot sun. Anyone have any ideas why?

Maybe it's not sunburn.  PH of water?  Salt?  Some other element in the water?

Are all the leaves looking "burned" or just some?  If so, are the effected leaves touching water? air? old? exposed to breezes? in more sun than other leaves? under a window that could be reflecting sunlight/heat?

If your pads are growing higher than the water surface or bunching up it sounds like its time to divide. The plant has become too crowded and that many pads overlapping can cause fungus problems which could spread quickly.

They are fine as long as they are touching water. It might be the combination of sun(they get full sun the whole entire day about 12 hours), over feeding, salt and wind. I live close by the ocean so get a lot of wind and salt from it.
Sean, I will keep in mind about what you said, good to know and thank you for always being so helpful and informative. Aloha
