10 years ago my DR. took X Rays  for an unrelated basketball injury,  He commented that I has Arthritis in my back.  I asked, "oh yeah, how come it doesn't hurt"?  he said one day it would.
Well it had been murder for the last 4 weeks, so i went to an Orthopedic specialist.
The X Rays were pretty good, very clear.  An MRI will be more definitavie. We do that on Friday.  Evaluation next Wed.
He did give me an industrial strength anti- inflammatory.
It may just be an injury, with luck!   In the meantime my big time digging and planting has been put on hold.  The screaming Joyce heard may have been me! @O@

I did cheat and replace a sprinkler head today.

Oh Jerry, I'm sorry. Be careful and don't push your luck too far. It's not fun having back pain.

What is your thinking about chiropractic? I know a lot of people don't think they can help. I have been lucky using them I guess. There are different types of procedures. One kind of wrenches and forces the bones into position. The other uses a little bumper thingy that gently puts pressure on the places that need work. But the second one takes more work I think. Anyway, it's just a thought.

One time my DH bent over to pick up a piece of paper and OWWWW. HE came in the house and layed flat on the floor. That was Saturday and he couldn't get up until Tuesday. The chiropractor actually came to our home on Sunday. He just asked my Dh to move his legs and arms and when he saw that he could, he told him he would adjust him when he was well enough to walk and come to the office. He also told us to use ice on the sore area for 10 minutes every hour in the first 24 hours to reduce the inflamation. Eventually when DH was experiencing less pain he went to the office where they exrayed and then did the adjustment. I think he went at least once a week for a few weeks and then stopped going. There was one other time something like that happened to DH and he went to the doctor/chiropractor a few times.

Awww. . . I'm so sorry Jerry!  I hate it when crap gets in the way of life!!!  Hope you're feeling better very soon, but for now, take it easy, read the forum, relax, and do your best not to look out the window at anything not finished.

Unlike Esther's DH and so many others the pain is now only discomfort.
I will know more on Wednesday, but it is not looking like the dreaded Arthritis that hits most as the get older.  I was going to say, "as they age."  couldn't bear it!  @O@

I know many people who I respect who love Chiropractors.  I was involved in Sports with many, and my opinion is not good at all.   I never heard an MD describe female patients the way I have heard Chiropractors do it. Really nasty.
I know this is only a handfull that I heard do this, but it sure left a shabby impression.

i went to one I played basketball with. He was selling monthly programs, birthday specials and the list of promos  the list goes on and on. Not impressed.

I am modifying this post to state that I am sure there are many ethical chiropractors out there.
it is only MY experiences I cite.

MRI tomorrow @ 8:00 Evaluation on wednesday.
My pain is minimal really. I'd be out there digging but the man said lay off and no gym either. O0

Jerry, I know what you mean about the sales pitch. But I do what I think is best. When the pain is gone I don't go any more. None of the chiropractors that I have dealt with over the years have been obnoxious or stepped out of line in any way. There may have been 6 different guys in the course of 50 years and they all helped the pain stop.

Three of the times I couldn't move because the pain was in my neck. You've heard of a pain in the neck? One time I had a small baby and couldn't wait for the problem to solve itself. And I have done that with other back pain. Just last week I was having pain in my groin and couldn't walk very well. I am having to spend every day at the hospital with my dad so have to walk from the car to the building and to the elevator and then to the room. So I decided I wasn't going to put up with the pain and shelled out the $$.

Good luck Jerry! O0

I tried to get in to see a chiropractor yesterday, but they were all at a seminar, so I came home and stacked a cord of wood. Slowly of course - Today I'll stack 2 more cords. Slowly of course.
It seems to be the bending / twisting / that does it for me. I'm going to try and not do that ;)

Same here Steve. I wear a back support like the stevadores do when I lift.
I can squat real good too. Years os half squats exercise.
As I said       I'm pretty good now, but have no idea if it's me or the pain killer.
Wednesday we will, hopefully know.  The MRI was easy, I dozed off for a bit.

I remember you were in quite a bit of pain on the day of the pond party.  It's kind of difficult to put on a happy face and entertain guests when in such pain.  Thank God for good doctors.

The results of the MRI are pretty good. Not arthritic at all! O0
It appears to be a disc herniation.  Treatment: anti inflammatories to "knock it down"
and therapy.   I will go to a therapist, but only to learn the exercises.  I am at a gym daily and don't need a guy coaching me.
Today is the best day easily.  he said these things run a course of about 6 week.
He did say cool it  {nono}with heavy lifting.  i have of course.
He also got my age wrong by 10 years  I like him! @O@

Modification:  There is a difference between a herniated Disc and a Disk Herniation. I willask the therapist tomorrow

Joyce  you may not believe it, but I never saw the Dr.!  Rather a Drs assistant!
This is where the Dodgers & Lakers go, and is supposed to be "thee" place.
The Dr, meets with the assistant and reviews x rays, MRIs etc. Yes wierd , I know.  he had a good manner and spent more time with me than any Dr ever has.
They did give me the record for my Internist.
Feeling pretty good. O0
