Here is how I get plants ready for shipping. As you can see, there are different sizes of the tropical waterlilies shown. I will describe them as either young plants, blooming size, or big blooming size. Plants shown are (left to right) a big nightbloomer, blooming size Albert Greenberg, blooming size Rhonda Kay, young Red Indian Goddess, several plants on tuber Purple Indian Goddess. Next picture shows several sheets of newspaper & I will carefully circle the pads & stems around trying to get the pads to lay as flat as possible. I'll fold up the corners of the paper & then get everything moist before putting it in the bag. Flat Rate box I do the same only I have to pack with the box open & layer the plants in it.
I grow my extra tropicals in small plastic drinking cups so they aren't huge when they are shipped. I find this size of tropical will recover quicker from shipping. I grow my extra hardies in small flower pots like you'd get a geranium in. So I'm recycling lots of cups & pots
