It's been awhile...
« on: May 29, 2008, 09:15:41 AM »
...since I've had a tropical lily in my pond.  I purchased a couple from Kat, and according to USPS, they'll be delivered today.

My question is what is the minimum temperature the water should be at before introducing this lily into the pond.  We've had some warm day, but the nights have been cool.  I meant to get a temperature reading last night before I posted the question, but I forgot.  I'll get the lilies planted tonight, but will put them in a tub if my pond is too cold.

Thanks,
Brian

Mine looked bad at 55, but soon as we hit 60 degrees they started perking up. I am sure you will get a more difinitive answer...

Minimum air and water temps for tropical lilies should be 70*, 75* is better.  Otherwise you risk them going dormant.

I agree with Tammie. 70°F is the minimum that would go on the water temps. If you don't have a thermometer in the pond, I recommend getting one. I have the Derby Duck that they use in pools.

If you think that your question is dumb, imagine how totally stupid you will look if you don't ask it.

Thank you Jerry, Tammie and Scott.  The water temp was 75, so I felt that was warm enough to put them in.  I guess I made a good judgement call after all.

I've got a floating swan thermometer, and I also used the infrared non-contact thermometer as well.

Thanks again.  You are all great!!!
