I think the fall blooms are the most beautiful.  That is a stunner.

It's a great lily Gary.

I had it once many years ago. Now I only have tropicals.

Cheers,

Had never seen a pic of Peaches and Cream before. Nice! Great photography doesn't hurt either.

Cheers,

Anytime I see something screech across a room and latch onto someone's neck, and the guy screams and tries to get it off, I have to laugh, because what is that thing?

Thanks everyone, I thought I caught Almost black, but I forgot to put the card back in the camera!!!!

Mike I didn't realize you were from South Africa.  My luck I went to Johannesburg a month or so ago and it was the first time in 20 years it snowed!!!  This also explains why you are not afraid of earthquakes.  I was shocked by the violence that is ongoing.

And the violence is so much less now than it got in the 1990's. Really sad, Joburg used to have quite a good vibe and buzz to it, now it is just another decaying third world dump. Those of us who did not flee the country, fled from the cities down to the coast where there was a semblance of law and order remaining.

I think the new government is realising that the post apartheid "freedom" feeding frenzy has to be curtailed, and order restored if there is any long term hope for the economy. The pessimists are saying just another 20 years until we turn into another Zimbabwe.

Cape Town still quite a neat place however - hope you got down there.

Cheers,

Mike

Million whites leave SA - study

24/09/2006 16:37
By: Peet van Aardt

Johannesburg - One million white South Africans - almost a fifth - have left the country in the past ten years. This figure was released last week in a report from the South African Institute of Race Relations (SAIRR).

Frans Cronjé, who compiled the report, said it was especially crime and affirmative action which had driven a fifth of South Africa's white population out of the country.  He did an analysis of Statistics South Africa's Household Surveys between 1995 and 2005, emigration figures and other reliable estimates on population numbers.

Cronjé said the results left himself and his colleagues dumbfounded.   "When we drew the graphs we saw that almost a whole generation of white South Africans are not here anymore."

Me and mine have been thrown on the trash heap of history - maybe deservedly, but it sure is a big sore point in my life.

Mike:

I feel your pain, its hard when a city is in decay.  Unfortunately I did not go to Capetown...I hope to in the future as well as a Safari.  I'm working with SAB on a few projects that will get me over there a few times a year.

BTW I'm heading out the door to do some recruiting at UCSB, Cal Tech and UCLA, are you anywhere in the vacintiy?  Perhaps we can meet for diner & drink or two.  I will castch up with email tomorrow morning PT
