Plantless Pond in Need
« on: June 04, 2008, 09:47:14 AM »

I'm new to this pond thing.  I bought a house in Toledo, Ohio and pulled out a huge bush in the front yard and decided to make a pond in that area.  It turned out great but I have no plants in it.  I have no idea where to buy and what lives in this area.  I also just dug another pond in the back yard but it is 2 preformed liners.  The front yard pond is clean and clear but the back is green.  I have added pumps w/ fountains, pond salt and pond bacteria to both ponds.  The front is in shade and the back is full sun till after 3pm.  But I know I need plants to keep it clean and healthy for fish.  I'm looking for cheap or free starter plants for my pond.  I'm on a budget and won't have any extra money for about 2 weeks.  Thank you in advance for any help.

@O@ Yay! Someone in my hometown!  Sorry to hijack your post, but what part of Toledo are you in?  Maybe I can give you a few pointers (though I'm only into my 3rd season)...

Pond salt might kill plants.

I was told by the pond people "Oak Park WaterGardens" to add pond salt if I'm going to have fish.  So I did.  He said it shouldn't hurt the plants.  Right now there are none.  Also KatFish, I work at MCO now UTMC we'll have to get lunch some time and talk about pond stuff.  I'm down in your area almost every day.

Sounds good to me - would have to be a weekend tho.  I'm suprised that Oak Park told you that.  I wonder if it was a new employee....?  Anyhow, send me a PM if you'd like to meet up sometime  ;D
