Good idea, Cedric! Hmmmmm.....
The only piece that will stay the same is the center, but it will be pushed down in the mud some. My good friend Butch will bring over his trackhoe someday and push it down. Its slowly settling, but we will accelerate the process.

The two cross pieces, the interrupted journey, will be trimmed to a more demure aesthetic norm.
And its missing the anchors. There will be two BEEG rocks, one on each end, on the northwest and southeast side, to give it presence and strength.

All it takes is time and...
Joyce, as I am sure you know, the zig zag bridge is a feature of oriental gardening.

I have modified it somewhat, because of the availability of materials. All the parts so far have been free. Did I mention I have a friend named Butch? He has a construction company. These are all parts from a railroad trestle that he was hired to take down about ten years ago. They've been lying around waiting for someone to find a reason to use them. The wood was really dry.
The parts were floated

to their positions because they were so dry - thank GOODNESS - because we couldn't lift them now that they have been saturated again with pond water.
I had trouble setting the pillars in place, because they kept floating, and because I was working in knee deep water with a small shovel. So I opted for using weight to press them into the bottom.
Eventually

the pillars and the walkway will be level.
The pond has some growing to do too. On the east side, I want to fill it with iris. Its relatively shallow. On the west side, nothing but water lilies, its deeper.

And then there is the walkway to build, and the tea house (entrance only) and the fire pit...

Ummm. its a work in progress.
