Although not as spectacular as Yosemite, King's Canyon and Sequoia National Parks provide some beautiful vistas without the crowds and traffic

Just beautiful!  The 'West' has some of the most spectacular parks.

Gorgeous shots of waterfall and scenery!  So relaxing just soaking in the scenes.  King's Canyon is less traveled than Yosemite, making it a favored national park.

Those are some great shots of beautiful scenery!!!   @O@

Although the mountains and waterfall are beautiful, I am most fascinated by that Sequoia!  I've never seen one "in person," and it's just amazing they can be so huge!   :o

LeeAnne: Sequoia/Kings Canyon is a definite must see.  These inland redwoods are true giants.  Sadly the biggest of these trees were felled in the 19th century.  Every time I have visited them I find myself whispering and notice many other people doing the same.

I haven't been to Yosemite either though I've been to many other National Parks and Monuments throughout the West.

DH just isn't into traveling. :(  He has never even been to Crater Lake National Park and he has lived his entire life here in Oregon. His family was not into traveling or camping. He hadn't been to Disneyland until I took him.

I grew up traveling with parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. We camped and traveled all over the place. After my parents divorced and we moved to Arizona my father drove down and picked us up and drove back to Oregon the long scenic route more than once. Grandparents took me on a long tour once too, Grandpa was a traveling salesman with a motor home.

I've been to Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Rocky Mountain, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Bryce Canyon, Zion, and more. Those are just off the top of my head.

We can all be grateful for the foresight of those who protected these remaining 2,500 year old majestic giants from the loggers' axes...they would have taken thousands of years to replace.
One of the most surprising facts about these huge 25- story trees is that their root systems are only 3-5 feet deep...they are more at risk to topple over rather than be destroyed by fire or pests...in fact, without forest fires they won't propagate because it takes a fire's heat to pop open their seed pods.

The fetching one's cousins used to have a cabin up in Hume Lake in the Kings Canyon area.  They had a book on the coffee table that gave the history of the logging of these giants and it had many wonderful photos from the time.  The book said that many of these giants would shatter upon being felled and were left to rot.  Eventually the loggers learned to leave other nearby trees in their path standing so that the fall wouldn't splinter the giants.  They also eventually learned that redwood was not the best material for building wood frame homes.....

Magnificent. I was lucky to visit there many years ago and remember thinking that I would drop everything if I could live there forever.
