Mike, you are 100% right.  I know the problem, it's me.  I know the reason too.
I grew up without "stuff" and we never threw things out, we had little to throw away.
So here I am thinking I need to save this stuff, just in case......wrong!
The stuff ends up owning you rather than you owning it! :'(

Don't feel bad, Jerry.  I have the same problem.   :'(
My youngest daughter is really good at coming down and helping me reorganize and throw away some of my "stuff."  Thank God!!!   o(:-)

;D  I have the same problem with keeping things for the same reason as you Jerry.  But with the Salvation Army store nearby I am able to let go of many things when I do a major clean up.

I bought the same shelves at Costco for my son.  We call it the Bank....every penny he earns he buys stuff for his car and ends up putting the old, "still valuable," parts in the shelves and  {nono} off my floors!

Funny how your garage stuff looks a lot like our garage stuff. Why do we need to keep all that stuff, and what exactly is it?

I did a 'surprise' for my hubby. Went out and bought 8+ shelving units, put them together, installed them in the crawlspace, and put all the radios there. Nice, neat, and organized. It's a year later now, none of those radios have been touched... but there is a brand new 'crop' of radios that somehow 'grew' in his workshop again. I'm beginning to think that the radios are starting to reproduce like bunnies.
Ah, who am I to complain- my Legos and Waterlilies seem to reproduce like bunnies too.  O0

And that paragraph didn't even address our garage...  ::) It is even more evil. Anyone want a '68 Eldorado? It gets great gas mileage... almost a mile for every 8 gallons.  ;)

Karen, did you put them in the crawlspace under your house?  How in the world would he be able to get to them?  Apparently, I have the wrong idea of what a crawlspace is.   :-\

Great photo Jerry O0 Nice selection of reels. Always loved Penns. I started giving some of my fishing stuff that I will never use again to my older son who will. I gave him most of my lake michigan fishing gear, including, I think 14 rods and reels, baits, etc. Of course I still kepts half dozen LM rods and reels, my favorite baits etc. Never know when I might need them. {:-P;; Course, that doesn't include my regular fishing stuff--We won't go into numbers {:-P;; @O@
Annette, Us fishermen can NEVER have too much stuff.  @O@ @O@
My cellar is a one room, fishing, hunting room------wall to wall-----Stuff O0 O0 O0

Didn't we go through your garage reorganization a couple years back? And now it's overfilled again? Shelves look good-Get more!!

Annette. I was a fishing tackle dealer and had the bad habit of falling in love with my merchandise.

I may have, in recent years sold off dozens of rods and reels, not to mention line, tackle boxes, boxed hooks etc.  The Mustad company of Norway used my property as their west coast warehouse! I was very well treated,  These folks have been making fish hooks since 1832 !
Yes, MUSTAD is spelled right!
I will post a 15 or 20 year (at least) old photo with some unique hook displays.  Right now AOL says, "try later!"

LOL!!!   lol lol lol

Karen, did you put them in the crawlspace under your house?  How in the world would he be able to get to them?  Apparently, I have the wrong idea of what a crawlspace is.   :-\

Sandye, Our basement has a very large crawlspace, which is kind of like a half-tall basement. Hard to describe, but you climb up into it from the regular basement, and it's about 3 0r 4 feet tall. You have to crawl on your knees or scrunch down to walk around. I use a little garden seat with wheels to get around.
Ours has a cemented floor (sometimes they're just dirt), which is nice. I'd like to get it carpeted. We store all our seasonal decorations, toys, etc down there. And radios...

That was probably too much information. :D

Jerry, what a gorgeous collection you have there.

Karen, was that tounge in cheek?

"The Sopranos" tapes go tomorrow, as does ancient pots n pans.
Gave my Mom's dishes to a lovely couple in Las Vegas as well as cactus and Aloes!
Keeping the dishes 40 years was long enough!
I have historically signicicant Life Magazines. I am told they are worthless.  Sayonara!
Saw the Dr. re: my foot, nothing broken!  I feel better just knowing that.  Now on with the makeover, limp and all!

Oh yeah, found a Mixmaster from the late 30s!  Model # 1  Will look on EBay to see if it has value.

Sandye, we had a basement like that. We called it an Michigan basement. Eventually we dug it down to the regular depth and got rid of the cistern and storm cellar door too.

Thanks Karen (and Esther) for the explanation.  The crawlspace under our house is approx 18"-20+", and has a dirt floor, so I didn't quite understand how (or why) you could put shelves or radios there.   ;D

That wasn't too much information at all.  A 3'-4' crawlspace with a cement floor makes a lot more sense than what I was picturing.  ;)

Oh yeah, found a Mixmaster from the late 30s!  Model # 1  Will look on EBay to see if it has value.

No, not at all. Like what Annette said, they are arranged so attractive, and the colors & patterns make it look like a work of art. It's really nice! Do you still have it? I'll bet that collection would be valuable to a collector.
I think your Mixmaster has value, and I suspect you could sell the Life Mags as well. Those old Life mags have great graphics and wonderful old advertising. We bought a couple of old '68 Eldorado ads from Life, from an antique dealer, and they were around 6.00 each.
We bought our vintage toaster on ebay... I think it's from the 50's, but we bought it because it actually TOASTS!  @O@ There are more important things than toast, but when you get a piece of toast out of an old toaster, it is genuinely perfect. One of Life's little joys.

Esther, I would so love to dig out all that wasted space and have a full basement. I was quoted 65,000 dollars by one remodeling company.  :o So, I guess we'll just live with it.  O0
For now. Never know though, if I win the lottery the crawlspace is history.  ;)

I saw MixMasters on E bay  from 10.00 to 95.00  None looked as ancient.
I had a life cover hanging up in my workshop.  It pictured a very young and beautiful Candace Bergen.  I sent it to her.  She sent me a nice photo, autogrphed, of course.  That was 20 years ago.  Never dreamed id be acting.  I can scan it if anyone cares?

Some lead head molds, I have 20. The guy I Sold my business too had a junk man take them!  I gave the junkman 5.00.  Sold most for 400.00 ! Now you know why the business failed!
Last is a shrink wrap machine.  We would use it to pack many of our products.  Ancient too, but works fine.
