Tweety it has an opening in the bottom where the fish swim in and out of it. And it is sitting on its stand. Tranquility yes that is why I don't use it all the time it is plastic and you have to be very careful when you clean it.

I thought they just floated around on the surface.  But you need a stand?  Tranquility, with your flower vase, what did you use for a stand?

I'm confused.  How come the water stays up in it higher than in the pond?  I must be dense.

Jonna, the water stays in it because you fill it with water underwater, then turn it over and raise it high enough to sit on the stand...but the opening/mouth is still underwater.  You can try the same thing with a glass in a sink full of water.  If you pull the whole thing out of the water it will empty, but it won't as long as you keep the opening underwater.

I'm sure there's a better way to explain that, but that's the best I can do right now.   ;D

It has a plastic PVC pipe that comes with it.We hook it to wet dry vac and when turn it on, it takes air out of sphere. Then it fills it up with water.

That was really popular a few years back, but I guess the maintenance issue kept a lot of people from trying it. I think it's cool.  O0

Some folks used to feed their fish that way. In the Dome...  8)

I just used 2 blocks spaced far enough apart that the fish could swim into the vase...but, I bet it would be really easy to make a stand out of PVC pipe....I really was amazed at how fast they found it....just the pitts to keep clean....

I am very interested in a sphere.  Where would I find one?
I live in Ontario, Canada.
I have just built an above ground pond that is 4 x 8 x (4 at one end and 2.5 at the other).
It is going to part of a deck (future plan). My young son spends alot of time just watching the fish and to have a sphere would absolutely amaze him.

Well, Twig, as someone already mentioned, you could use a fish bowl.  I'm toying with the idea, too, and am wondering if I can use one of my plastic Kritter Keepers, so there'd be no worry about glass in the pond.

One of my bettas just died, so I have a traditional goldfish bowl that is heavy, thick glass... maybe I can rig something up with that.

Cool idea.  I had seen them at the pond store, but I'm sure they're expensive.  now that I realize you can use other containers, I think I may try to set one up.

It's called an Add-A-Sphere.  I have had several over the years and carried them in our shop.  Everyone loves them, but they have been too pricey for most of my customers.  I just checked their website and they are on sale!  Addasphere.com  That might  make a difference!
I put a light under mine and it is mesmerizing at night.  If it is in full sun it does require regular cleaning- just depends on how much you love it and how often you want to mess with it.  :)  A spot in the shade would be ideal. I am positive the fish enjoy the penthouse view.   o(

I set mine up today, using a 2 gallon goldfish bowl, propped up on some bricks, with about half the opening accessible for smaller fish to swim in.

Sat outside watching for about 15 minutes, but no one discovered it.  They still seemed a little scared of the New Object.  Maybe by tomorrow morning they will be playing with it and in it.

If you want your fish to explore your fish tower release some floating food under water so that it rises into the tower the fish will follow. After regular feedings they will arive before you in anticipation!

Fish towers, maybe???

"Add a Sphere" or "Fish Tower" sounds right, but I seem to remember some other name as well. Fish Condo? I have CRS as well.  ;)

Sometimes you can find large round glass vases like that at hobby shops (Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc), and garage sales.

I've got a vase like that, but no stand. OK, maybe I'm getting curious...  ;)
