HELP ASAP....Advice on liner replacement
« on: July 04, 2008, 09:39:37 PM »
When we built our pond we used the only supplies we could find locally, which we know now weren't the best we could use but we didn't know at the time where else to find any. It has served us well considering they weren't the best quality as this is the 5th year for our pond. However....DH noticed tiny little holes all around the top where the sun hits the liner when the water gets a tad low. So we need to replace it. Our question is what type of material should we use and where to buy it? Our pond is 18' x 14' and 2 1/2' deep....approx. 5000 gallons so we need a really big liner. We want to do this ASAP so we can have it back and running in time to enjoy it a lot yet this summer.
Thanks for any help!!!

Cath,

Rubber roofing for the liner. Just go to a roofer. He'll have some for you.

You can also get rubber liner from most good pond supply stores. Mine is firestone PDM 45 mil. 25 year warenty. It is a bit colstly tho. I want to get   another piece to make a very small streem from my little pond to the big one.
I'm just happier outside!

I buy mine local from a friend. I got a 13 x 33 for $156. I am lucky. Is the top the only holes? My ponds are covered with boards on the top of some of them.

My husband repaired some other small holes recently, before we realized these holes were there. The holes are right at the top just before the rocks around the edge begin. Too many to repair which is why we want to make sure we do a really good job this time by using really good material. The cost doesn't matter so much as long as it's worth it.

I agree with Lawanna.  I bought my 20x20 liner (last week) from pondliner.com.  Their prices are the best I could find online.  I didn't buy the under layment from them.  I plan to just use some old rugs.  If you are looking for the under layment as well, make sure to compare the prices first.  Not sure if they will be cheaper.  Their liner sure is though.

Try  discount pond supplies online as they have good prices wholesale and retail.

Home Depots here in AZ have EPDM liner.  I figured they have them elsewhere.  Not sure on the cost per sqft.

Cath,
Just one last thought:

45 mil rubber is 45 mil rubber.
