DH's new Buddy
« on: July 07, 2008, 07:44:19 PM »
Last week we went to the pond store for a few things and DH picked himself up a new buddy.  The guys said it would help with heron, but I don't think so.  We have it in the lily pond where the goldfish are.  Had to take the nets off as the lotus now have some arial pads.  I don't think I'd trust it as a main source of defense in the koi pond.  Heron are not normaly bad here in the summer just in the spring and fall.  My 4yr old grandson was scared of it at first.

Would a heron in Wisconsin know what an aligator is? And an aligator that never changes position?

He's a lot more real looking than most I've seen. Hope he works? I don't blame your GS he does look mean!

Has DH named his new fishing buddy?  ;D  I have a gator too and he hides beneath my bridge.

Esther, it does move.  It is jointed(short chain) at the head/body and body/tail, it  has an eye hook underneath and is teathered with fishing line to a weight with enough length to move around quite well in the center without tangling on the lilies to much.  I really don't think it will be to much of a deterant if a heron returns but ever since DH was a little boy on a trip to Florida he has wanted a gator, so this apeases him.
Mikey, no he has not named him yet, but if the heron comes and gets the goldfish he says his name will be Leaker.  The grandson however says maybe Sheldon or Al
