To my surprise, and some blooms from today
« on: July 08, 2008, 07:44:46 PM »
I took some pics of blooms today, and when I uploaded them I had caught a dragonfly in two of the pics.  I think I was so focused on the lilie, and it being so darn windy.  I didn't even notice that it landed.  Gotta love that digital delay sometimes or its when I wasn't looking through the camera so I could get a direct overhead shot.  A pleasant surprise.

Kim

Hey look KAT, Miami Rose is already blooming like crazy.

I'm not sure what it is, without getting my notebook out.  I know I have mexicana too, I have several yellows.  When I first started out, that was about all I had.  Don't really know how I ended up with that many, but I fixed that problem.

Great shots.  Miami Rose looks great.  How long did it take for your Miami Rose to bloom?

I just got it a couple weeks ago.  Its has just taken off like crazy.  I found another bud on it today, along with the bud in the photo.  I think she's going to be a good bloomer for me.

Once established Miami Rose will take off very well, but sometimes it will take a while for the "established" part.  It took me 3 different seasons/3 different plants for mine to actually flourish.  I couldn't figure that out because so many people have said that it is really easy to grow.  I guess this year is my "flourish" year for it.

There is never enough room for all of the water lilies that I want ;-)

Alfonso, I'm not really sure.  I got a bunch of little tubers at the end of the season last year.  I had got a couple larger ones from Lawana, and she gave me some baby tubers she found.  I ended up being able to over winter them in the little greenhouse, with one exception.

While I was working so much with walmart and my other job, I had little time to do anything.  DH would tell me he watered the plants in the greenhouse.  However, dh didn't add water to the lily tank.  I happened to walk out there one day and about half of the dixie cups were bone dry.  The water level was that low.  I added water, and let them be hoping, but nothing.  I had about 9 make it, I found another bud on another one of the cups.  I'm really loving the tropicals now.  And I'm not afraid to buy them, now that I over-wintered them.

Oh yeah, he didn't add water to my dwarf papyrus and it died.  I've got to get me another one of them.  I always liked it.

Nice pictures, love the dragonfly shot, even if it was accidental....should never have told us, we would have thought it was on purpose. ;)

Its been a wierd summer here too.  The kids haven't been swimming much.  The nights get cool, then rain they say the pool is too cold.  We started out hot in June, then it went away.  Past couple days have just be very humid.  My banana trees, and elephant ears haven't done much yet.  Guess its just not hot enough for them to get going.
