My daughter's "good" horse died June 4th. It was unexpected, he hadn't been ill, had no injuries. And he was a very gentle soul. I was nagged by the thought that he would be worried about my daughter.
Because he WAS her first love. She used to sleep in the barn to be near him.
Anyway, we saw a horse today and bought her. She is a LOT like Shorty, and very gentle.
So I went to "the tree named Shorty" - planted on Shorty's grave - and told him that we had found someone to take care of my daughter.
I think he understands.
I guess I'm a sentimental fool - paying money to ease the soul of a dead horse. But it makes sense to me.
