A proud Wren
« on: August 02, 2008, 09:31:46 AM »
A couple of weeks ago while I walking around my backyard when I heard this chirping noise . Upon further investigation I discovered that a wren built  a nest in one of my clothesline poles and had babies @O@ This wren doesn't care one bit when i am around it.  It so great great to here the different sounds this bird makes each day. And watch this bird fly in and out of the pole to feed the babies. Here are a few pics of the wren. I tried to take some pictures of the babies that are inside of the pole, but I was only fairly successful with one of them

That is so cool!!  Now that is a new one for nest building!  I'm guessing there is something in the vertical pipe to stop the nest and babes from falling  :D

I love chirping of birds outside.  I can't stand the screeching of my cockatiel though.  >:(  >:(-

Awww. I just love the little wrens. I had one nest in a tiny house this summer that was supposed to be a decorative house, not a real one. After the babies hatched, we had a terrible storm and the house came down. We were camping so didn't know for a couple of days. The babies died. I was sad.

Your pictures are adorable. P D Eastman wrote a children's  book called, My Nest is Best. The story goes that momma bird wanted a new house and poppa went all over trying a mailbox, a work boot, and I don't remember all the possibilities. Momma tried them all and found problems with each one. The eventually decided that their first home was best.

Thank you all. Yes,there must be something in the pipe that stops the nest from falling down. This the 2nd year the wren  built a nest in there. I want to do something to the pipe so that it won't stand out as much. I think I am going to paint it black.

Does anybody have any other suggestions on what I could do to the pipe?

Paint it a dark green to blend with the bushes behind it.  Might camoflauge it some.

Rick,Great pictures of Wren. They sometimes build their nest in the oddest place. I just love to hear wrens singing in yard. They have the most beautiful music. Thanks for sharing. @O@

Attach a triangular house around the pipe like making a house with a round opening in the back for the pipe to go through and put a regular hole (dime size I think) on the front piece that goes over the front for the door. WALA a wren house over the pipe. If you're afraid birdy won't recognize the pipe then just do the roof and floor pieces and hang them on the pipe.

Paint it black or green and then train a vine to grow up and cover it.
