Pond & flower pics today, 10/12
« on: October 12, 2006, 09:33:31 AM »
Umbrella palm. This started as a tiny little sprig from Home Depot back in May.

Dauben

Helvola

Lotus

Mares Tail

Tina

Pond

And finally-

I'm so glad I got all the tropicals inside. See all that white outside?
First time I've ever seen snow as early as Oct 12.

Oh My!  That Dauben picture just broke my heart!!!

The pics are really lovely, but I'm sure glad I'm seeing them on-line rather than in person . . . .

Very nice pictures. Plants with snow on, always look so cool. 8)
I'm always amazed how you get more snow that me. :o
My tub with the topicals in had ice on it this morning. (now I'm thinking about ice fishing) @O@
Yesteday when I went to work it was 56 deg, and when I came home from work was 36 deg. this morning was 27 deg and all my hostas were very white. Good timing in that tomorrow I chop down all my perenials.
Had the wood stove going last night and this morning.

Thanks.

I liked the one of the lotus, but it's so bright I can barely look at it. I wonder if there's something I can do to tone it down a little?

I think Tina and Dauben will be OK, I gotta get them inside too, though!

Matthew had a blast playing in the snow. By the time Laura gets home from school, it will probably all be melted.

Oh no, I'm not ready for this!  >:(- The pond is, but I'm not. :(
Beautiful pictures. We had frost last night.  I went out this morning and sprayed my annual pots with water, they survived.  Not sure how much longer I'll keep doing that.

Scenes like that are exactly why I moved to the coast.

Beautiful photo's Karen. I can admire them from a very, very far distance :D

Beautiful! Wish I were there... To put on a pair of skis, and head out the back door... only in my dreams.

Looks like a great day for a fire in the woodstove, and a good book...

Thanks!  :)

I hope this does not prophetize a bad winter!  >:(-
It was so much fun today, watching my Mini Man play in the snow. I have to tell you that he is a very industrious young Mini Man. At 4 years old, he put on ALL his snow clothes all by himself. Snow pants, boots, gloves, coat, hat. Definitely a developmental milestone!  :) I can't even begin to say how happy I was with that.
We played in the snow until it started melting.

Rocmon, what "minor islands" are you on? You are more than welcome to visit here- we have some pretty good sledding hills. However, I'm sure that if you are going to bother making the trip, the Colorado Rockies might be more suited to you.  ;)
"Looks like a great day for a fire in the woodstove, and a good book..."- you got that right! 'Tis the season for great books!

YOur little guy is adorable.  I can't believe you have snow this early.  We had frost this morning and that depressed me.  I couldn't imagine waking up to that already, it make me think about everything I still have to do to get ready for winter.

That pond looks awesome—lily pads in clear water surrounded by snow... @O@ All those clothes and cold and his cheeks aren't even red. :o

The "outer islands" is a result of multiple choice instead of fill in the blank options. If I could, I'd have a flag with a peace sign in it, but prefer no flag at all... I'm in Santa Cruz county which is so. of San Francisco. Many people consider Santa Cruz to be another country. It's kind of a bohemian oasis, a little like Boulder down by the outdoor mall, or Telluride... But I haven't been there in many years. So it's kind of like an outer island, surrounded by Silicon Valley wasteland.

We will be in Iowa around christmas. Last time we were there for christmas it was about 10 degrees and no snow. Burr doggies! Cold without snow?—what's the point?

Thanks Joann & Monica.
Rocmon, Oh! Now I got ya. I thought Ca in general was almost like another country. Great place to live, though. Boulder is another great place- I wouldn't mind living there, either.

I did get to finish a great little book by the fire yesterday- The Covenant of The Wild (by Stephen Budiansky).

I guess I've given up on warm weather. Time to embrace the Fall.

Karen,
What a great picture!
He is such a little boy through and through. These should be some of the most fun years with him.

Gosh!  I saw that picture of the umbrella palm and thought "what's wrong... sore of looks like black and white photo, but not really..."  Then I realized it was snow!  Jeez.  And here the weather men are predicting today will be the hottest day of the year!  Suppose to be 91*, high humidity and NO wind!  Guess I'm going to be keeping those lilies for you till spring...
