I'm so sorry to hear that you lost fish and have so much damage to what I think was one of the most beautiful ponds I've ever "seen".   Is it possible that this is telling you to build a runoff creek out of the pond?  I don't know how that would work but I was thinking that if you had a dry creekbed that channeled heavy rain away it might help.
