Those are so pretty.  Keep us updated if they continue to bloom in those unusual colors.

NO....and I'd give my right arm to have one if the flowers truely go to the hyacinth.....Looks like the flowers are single where as All of the hyacinths I have ever seen are multiple flowers on a stalk...These look alot like Canna flowers  :D...Are you sure the flowers go to the plant and someones not playin' a joke on you? If these things are real----I can't wait till they get to the states....

Howell, if you could start growing those at your house you could retire a young man soon. The demand would be so great that you would not have enough room to grow them.

No, I haven't seen them!  But I hope I do!  Those are beautiful, and I want some.  The only hyacinths I've seen down here are the regular blue ones and they were out at the aquaparque.  I've seen the blue ones elsewhere in Mexico, mainly clogging Lake Chapala.  I was at a nursery yesterday and they had a small section of water plants, papyrus and one lily.  I'll look around some more.

I am pretty sure you would have a big problem from the US agricultural inspection if you tried to take them north.  Hyacinths are considered an invasive weed in many areas, and most of those areas are near the border.  Don't risk it.

However, I wonder if you could ship them Estafeta to me?  Heh!  That would be a first time I could receive or send anything from down here.  I would have to find something to send you for your pond.  I have no pond yet, so I'm not really considering it now.  Keep us informed on them though, they are truly beautiful.

not really i dont think they are photoshopped first of all, she wouldnt show  the start tip, and if you look closely you will see a little leaf going from the tip to the flower just like in a normal hyacinth,
and i have gladiolous all over my place and the flowers look so much different, and the flowers shown here look more like a canna flower than gladiolous well i think so

Howell, mi amigo! When are you taking a tour of the southeastern states of the USA. I'm in Florida where they would treat you the same as if you were smuggling in drugs. ;D But we'll cover for you. That way, you could return to Mexico with cheap water lilies. Just bring a big suitcase.

Well if they are the real thing they are gorgeous and would become VERY popular amongst ponders that's for sure. A pond full of those would be soooooo pretty.

Ok, they are Photoshopped canna flowers.  :o Or someone stuck canna flowers or gladiolus flowers on the hyacinths and took pictures. They aren't really the blooms of the water hyacinths.  8) Nice try though....  O0

Some of these same pictures were sent to the Victoria Adventure mailing list not long ago.  The conclusion the members came to was that they are flowers from glads/cannas (I forget which, but they look like hybrid glads to me) that were very carefully stuck into the sheath that the hyacinth flower emerges from.

Howell, I don't think you are trying to trick us...you're just telling what you were told.

yeah i know they did, but they were actually sent there by people from argentina and spain right, i didnt know the conclusion but my friend is a newbie in this pond thing so i dont really think she would be making this up to me or the other forum members, because what the point will be you know, so she bought them they call them here "reina de el agua", and well i am gonna try so hard to get one and will show you ok, because i really trust her, and i think there might be some kind of reality in those flowers and well if i found one do not doubt that i wll cross the border with it just to show you, well maybe not but i will show joanna and well joanna if you see some mexican walking with a big container on his elbow and see leaves do not doubt to buy they are water hyacinths,
but yeah last thing i heard from those people in the forum was that they were takiing the pics and sending them maybe they wanted the credit or something.
but i didnt know they failed
anyhow im sorry i created this controversy

As a former florist (20+ years) and someone with four years of formal education in ornamental horticulture (stupidist thing I ever did was drop out of college and not get my degree) and someone who is a university extension master gardener, I can tell you with 100% certainty that those are not water hyacinth blooms.

Now, that doesn't mean I am calling you or your friend names, it just means that someone, somewhere faked these pictures and sent them around the internet.

yeah i know greenthumbnails there is always a first time thats what i think so too this world is so big that we shouldnt know all of the plant that exist in this one, so there is always a first time
and leeanne i know i understand what you mean
but yeah i dont really care much about the flowers, i love pads and water hyacinthis without the flowers more than one with flower, my mom loves the flowers but i rather see the frogs on top of the flowers
well leeanne you have made me doubt so i asked my friend to send me one and be sure if they are real i am so posting it in here

If they aren't real, does anyone know of a genetic researcher looking for a project to do? What do you think the probability would be that this plant could be produced with todays genetic research? Can you just imagine the price of one if they could produce it? ::) :o 8)
