Flare spawn
« on: September 28, 2008, 06:37:36 AM »
So, about three years ago I put a Flare in a pot in the pond. The cows wandered in and knocked it over. It wasn't doing very good at the time and I was bizzy and a dozen other reasons, I didn't do anything.
That year it struggled.
The next year it came up all over the pond.  :o
I have not seen seeds.
But the spawn are not true to the parent - the leaves are not as red.
The flowers, however, are quite true.  @O@

Do they overwinter outside?
If so, is your pond a mud pond?
I just love it, all those tropicals are awesome.
Scott I'll miss you buddy... :(

Very colorful!

Couldn't help but notice the structure in the background without a roof.  I recall you saying your barn lost the roof during hurricane Ike.  Hard to imagine such strong winds.

She's a beauty for sure!  Looks like the cows did you a favor!  ;D

Your simplistic wood plank walkway looks like it survived the winds too.

Yep - the barn roof is off. THe insurance adjuster came Saturday, so we can finally start trying to pick some of it up.

The bridge may be "simplistic" but I like the extra dimension of being able to walk out over the water and look down at the lilies. :)

Everything is doing very well. The Rhonda Kay is a first year plant I got from Kat. It just took OFFF!!!!  @O@

Wonderful to see a natural looking setting for beautiful lilies.

There is never enough room for all of the water lilies that I want ;-)

Beautiful lilies, and I adore the bridge. Off topic, but how many cows do you have? Are you a farmer? Do you grow the cows to eat or sell, or milk?
I hope to be able to have cows someday, if I live long enough.

We have Rascal (the longhorn), Ginger (the redhead), Lucy (Best mom), Peter (daughter of Lucy), Joline, Pink, Peanut, and Lucas (the bull).

We had a big plan to have two herds of purebreds, to raise them for their genetics. But we don't have the land. We have British White and Blonde De'Aquitaine - because I like their docility, and meat production.
At present we are trying to keep the herd numbers down. We eat them.
They are pets and have lovely lives, smelling flowers and chasing butterflies all day, until harvest day.

These photos were from last Spring. I'll get more photos later this week. :)

I love the black nose, too...and the black ears!   o(:-)

My first response was, "No, no, no...surely nobody could eat a British White...they are too beautiful."   :'(

Can't you find some ugly breed of cows to raise for meat???   Maybe?   ;D

Same as the human race. We simply kill the ugly to love the pretty with our words and actions. Guess its just human nature to cull the ugly and weak in every species we come across.

Wow, your Cows are beautiful! I'm so happy to have found a local farmer who raises cows the same way (smelling flowers, & chasing butterflies as you so aptly put it). It makes a difference to me that they've led a happy life.
Some day I'd like to have an old fashioned farm, with cows, chickens, pigs all leading a happy life.
