Dave, what kind of snake is that?  I would freak if I had one like that (or any kind) in my pond!  :o  Neighbors would probably call 911 after hearing me scream!!  :D

Just caught this praying mantis up side down on a lily leaf.  We watched it do all its moves.  Cool!  I flipped this photo over for viewing pleasure.

He was on a topiary form on the deck. He's a cottonwood borer so I think he came from the tree next door.

Wow, what a neat bug, Kay!  What is it?  (In your home?! eeeekkkkk!)  My bugs are very regular and nowhere as interesting as the others posted here  :o

I've had dragonflies galore with the new lily pond.  The blue green kind are having families in the pond.  We're finding their shells all over the place.   ;)

I have never posted a picture here before so I hope this works. This little guy was next to the pond on the hanging light fixture.

First pic is a leopard frog, first one I've ever seen in my 23 years at this house.  Next a couple of butterfly pics and finally a dragonfly pic.

I keep finding some kind of transparent shell in my tubs of water, don't know if it belongs to a dragon fly or something else though.  I've never actually seen the insect in it.  Anyone have a pic of a dragonfly shell?

Yes. It was titled as a Texas [sized] fire ant. But Fire Ants are RED AND BLACK, not just red. So I doubt their identification.  lol

Kim, Thank you, it is one of my favorites.  It is my gandson Tae, he was 2 at the time and I had him for the weekend, he found lots of fun wild things that weekend.  He just loves the pond and has been frog hunting every time he's here ever since, this year he actually caught one and was so thrilled.  His little brother is not quite old enough to enjoy or understand any of that kind of fun yet, just got his walking legs and for him the bridge is the fun thing up and over back and forth.   Here are a couple more of Tae and his finds......the first with the caterpiller was the same weekend, we found it while in the garden.  The other frog one is from last summer.... the lily pond is always full of them, I got so many pictures of him looking for frogs I did a scrapbook page called, I SPY a Teenie Tiny Frog.  The last is one of the three salamanders he caught here a couple weeks ago.  OOPS sorry if I rambled and bored you all, just kids and nature make such perfect pictues.

Those are some great shots Marla, love the stare down with the Frog.

Found this little guy @ the soccer field, some type of tree frog who didn't want to set still for this shot.

Wow, now I think that is the smallest little green tree frog I've ever seen!!!!  The ones that are here and that size are babies and usually brown.  Oh and Thanks for the compliments.

Here's one I hope not to see again, I always look now though.  It was in a towel that we had used to catch water coming under the sliding door in a heavy rain.

Here's one I hope not to see again, I always look now though.  It was in a towel that we had used to catch water coming under the sliding door in a heavy rain.

Jonna - that reminds me of a funny story from years ago.  I was at a friends home and he was in the bathroom washing up and dropped something behind the toidy.  He reached down without looking and got stung by a scorpion, and immediately panicked.  His brother got a jar and caught the scorpion and they rushed to the emergency room, fearing the worst.  Rodney even told all of us that he was feeling faint and that he was going to pass out, and he's a big kid at over 220 lbs and 6'2" tall.  He continued telling everyone he was getting light-headed as they rushed off to the hospital.

Upon his return, he didn't want to say a word, but his brother spilled the beans.  When they showed the doctor the scorpion, he said, "that's the one?  Oh, they can't hurt a baby, they don't have any venom in them at all...a bee sting is far worse than that could ever be", and released Rodney without so much as an antibiotic or band-aid.  But I think the doctor did offer him a lollipop, which he refused as he stormed out in embarrassment.  We didn't let him live it down for years!!   lol

That's  a funny story. You can make yourself sick just thinking you are dying.  I think they say that the black scorpions just hurt like hell and may swell but it won't kill you.  The beige ones are more potent and I think the little ones can't control their venom as well so they pump it all and hurt more.  I admit I didn't pay enough attention to the differences, I don't want to get bit by any of them.  We beat this one to death with a squeegie! After I took a picture.  Brutal beasts that we are.

My dog, Hombre, stuck his nose on a brown one in Jalisco and went screaming around trying to paw his nose off.  We gave him a benadryl and pretty soon he went to sleep with no more reaction.

Oh Jonna, I could do without ever coming across one of those no matter what size.....I'll stay up north here where they don't like it.
Blind 'Too, nice shot, one of the prettier ones I've seen....I have a hard time trying to get pictures of dragonflies.
