My new little friend
« on: October 16, 2008, 09:02:25 AM »
I think the groundhog that lived here for years must have died, and this is the baby. A couple weeks ago it was a tiny little thing, but has been working hard to fatten up for the winter.
This one is much less timid than the other one. We love to feed him/her carrots, and it sits there looking at us, munching away. My veggie garden has been pretty much wiped out.  ;)

Isn't it the cutest? I wish I knew whether it was a him or a her, my kids want to give it a name.

Very cute!  I love these critters - makes it fun to spot them rooting around on the sides of the road.   O0

He is one lucky critter. Hope he knows that. We have a neighbor who would love nothing better than to get that little guy in the crosshairs.

Cute little guy.  We don't have them out here.  If I saw one I would probably think it was a strange looking ground squirrel...

He is a cute little guy, Karen.  I take it he doesn't do much damage to your yard (other than wiping out your veggie garden)?  Otherwise, I don't think you would be calling him your little friend or saying that you have had one there for years.    8)

Do you have cats or dogs outside that might go after him.  I thought they could be pretty dangerous if cornered.  Maybe my info is wrong?   :-\

P.S.  We have a resident opossum that cleans up the overripe, rotting pears and apples that fall on the ground.  I rather appreciate that...so I haven't told the DH.  He might try to get rid of it if he knew. His dementia is much worse now and I don't think I could convince him to leave it in the yard.   :(  I saw the possum on the porch with two of the outdoor kittys and they were totally ignoring it.  I don't think they are in any danger from it.  If I did, I might try to trap it and relocate it.   {:-P;;
