Kat, ? on lily ponds
« on: October 26, 2008, 07:21:19 PM »
Do you cover your lily ponds in the winter?? If so, do you do that when the temp get at a certain level?  I am thinking of putting a pond heater in mine and covering it with clear plasic but I am not sure when to do this

I use the plastic sheeting that you get at Home Depot or Lowes over PVC pipe hooped over the pond & attached to the wood frame.  I should be getting mine on but have been lazy this year.  I'll probably do it this weekend.  I don't use heaters but I do put a pump in them to have water movement.

There is never enough room for all of the water lilies that I want ;-)

And I think I remember you saying you are only keeping hardies in these ponds over the winter.  The temps here in North Louisiana are to be 33 degree for the next 2 nights.  I can not believe this is happening this early in the year.  Thank you for the suggestion of running a pump to move the water around.  Good idea

Yep, it's gotten cold.  The covered ponds actually have my tropicals in them & I'll sometimes even have a few blooms up until Christmas depending on the weather.
