The water is a little clearer
« on: November 17, 2008, 11:19:11 AM »
It was in the high 60's last week & my butterfly koi pond was much clearer & I have no idea why , just glad it was tho .
I'm going to put in a 100 gal . stocktank veggie filter for next year . My cousin Mike put one in for his koi . He liked it real well . I think the one I used ( 40gal.) for this year just was'nt big enough for the job.
These picture's are not the best in the world ...they just would'nt stay still....my babies...

Nice, at least you can see them.  Our little top pond acts kind of like a veggie filter....next year we are hoping to revamp it....maybe a bit bigger, it is about 90gals right now.  Maybe if it's bigger it will help better, plus I will have to figure out which plants would do the best filtering for me.

OMG, how pretty :) The top picture could actually be a painting!  Good shots! My pond has clay bottom, and little cold spout comming from bottom, Did not have all that dreaded GREEN YUCK this summer @O@ But, did have cormorant! I hope to see at least one lil Koi surface next warm spring >:(-

when its a cold night here i look at my pond and its clearer and when it warms up its green.i always turn everything off in winter and let it cloud up so the predators don't see them...strange..lorraine

I do a good vacuum in the fall set the air stones in the water and cover them before the leaves come falling down. Man what a difference it has made, no spring cleaning here just some algae on the bottom. Clear water I can see the bottom so cool.

O0 Covering them up before winter sets in Is the only way to go. For the first few years I did not cover.  :'(  Things were not always pretty. No more the covers go on before the Elms drop there leaves. Makes us all happy and keeps the pond healthy.
