SoCal Plant Sale & Concert!
« on: November 24, 2008, 10:07:47 AM »
Buena Creek Gardens (San Marcos) is having a 20% off sale for all their plants.  This place is worth the drive.  In addition they are having a free concert featuring Miguel DeHoyos (guitar virtuoso) and Alex DePue (classical violinist) of Mexico.  These guys are good.  You can get a small taste of their music at: http://www.depuedehoyos.com/

The plant sale is for three days, November 28th - 30th 9am-5pm, however, the concert is only on Saturday, November 29th from 2pm-4pm.   I normally go early on the Friday sales because you have a better selection of plants.... but in this case it appears we will be going down on Saturday.....but then I guess we could do both..... {:-P;;

Happy Birthday Annette o(:-)

Is that the Miguel de Hoya from Baja?  I have an album of his and his voice is incredible as is his guitar playing.

Your 26th birthday Annette?  {:-P;;

Jonna: Might be.  They are from Mexico and do perform in Baja.  The owners of the nursery in San Marcos learned of them from their holiday trips down to Baja.

That's him.  Some friends of ours with a house in Baja brought me the CD a couple years ago.  I listen to it all the time, he is incredible.  You'll enjoy it.

The fetching one and I will likely have a disagreement on whether to spend $20 on their CD or on plants from the sale.....  I know which way I'm voting... @O@  However, I've learned that for some strange reason her vote is always worth two votes......which means I will be out-voted and we will be bringing home a CD in addition to whatever plants I buy.....  It's just not fair....  :P

Thank you Jonna!  Mike, that's how old I was last year!  :D ;D

I side with the fetching one, Mike.  Plant and CD sound like a great combo.  O0  I know I will be missing out on a cool trip.

I guess I did okay at the plant sale/concert.  I got 3 plants and the fetching one got 2 CDs....   It was a great concert.  Alex DePue does amazing things with his violin and he's a great entertainer to boot.  He and DeHoyos make a great team.  Here's a YouTube of just DePue if your interested in his unusual violin/fiddly style: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHC_Qyov2Xc

I only noticed one staghorn Savannah and it probably weighed over 100lbs.  It was somewhat sunburned because the tree it was attached to had been pruned heavily allowing too much sun to get to it.  They may have had more in the shaded plant area but I didn't spend much time there.
