Yep, the Bamboo is home grown. Wish there were more straight pieces though.
I split a lot of it. How you ask? Ill post a pic here later. I have a nifty tool. You will get a kick out of it.

It is Bumontia. For years I though it was Mandivilla. It flowered this year, only took 20 years to do so. I hope it will regulaly. It was Id'd by a member in Hong Kong.

This is the celver device for slitting bamboo. It can be gotten for different quantity divisions.

So it splits into four sections? Are there ones that split it in half or just cuts a wedge out of one side? When you cut the pieces to cover those pipes, how did you do it?

Yes Esther they do come in many configurations. I finished up today 99%
Here are struts Iadded today. I used a kitchen type ladder yesterday. Today I used a proper one but stepped off as though it was the fomer. Fell on my butt and even whacked my head (lightly) but the butt is sure sore. No billiards tonight.

Now that I know how to do it I am done. I never like what I build, because I know all the flaws that I manage to hide. I am, however, pleased with the design and tropical look!

Thanks for the photos of the bamboo splitter in action. I could see the dividers in the original photo, but not the blades. Had no idea there were such things as "bamboo websites", but I guess today there's a website for everything.

You did a fine job on the canopy. I believe that if you can hide the mistakes, they couldn't have been really big mistakes. And now you know, when you have company for breakfast and can't find the egg poacher, you have an emergency back-up.

Jerry, when I was looking at the upper pictures, I kept thinking, "It needs two more bars going from the bottom center bar, on an angle up inbetween the longer bars. Then when I saw the last picture, that is exactly what you did. It achieved a kind of sunburst look. I like it. Good job of hiding the flaws.
