I don't know how long it was out.   >:(-  Less than three days because I was out there watering on Sunday or Monday. We've had severe winds and I should of checked but we had holiday dinner at our house last night for part of the family we can't see on Christmas and I was cleaning and cooking. They came with little notice because of weather conditions and my house isn't company ready at all times  :o  There was snow all over my still blooming mandevillea and the little heater was working like crazy. I'm scared about how many plants are going to croak and how high my bill is going to be.  :'(

OMG!
As a person with a greenhouse I know that fear . Always afraid of losing power! I have a kerosene heater for back-up, but what a pain.

Can you rig up some plastic or something. Hope you can save it!

Sorry to hear that LeeAnne. I was looking at hail on my plumeria on Sunday night - but so far they seem like they will live.
I can send more papyrus and canna in the spring if those are some that you need replaced.

Get Bob out there with his tools.

Cheers,

Mike

Oh, Oh.....  Watch out Leann, we are just getting hammered here in Olympia with snow (7 inches of wet stuff)!!!  I hope you can get something sturdy on it soon (plywood?), because all this crap is heading your way!!!!

Take Care....  Dave

I found the panel and Bob put it back in. I went to buy more metal clips to secure all of the panels but the greenhouse supply store was out.

It is snowing and blowing hard right now.  :(

So far, the panels have all stayed on. Bob has had to sweep snow off the roof a dozen times though to keep them from buckling. Too soon to tell if there is frost damage inside.

LeeAnne,

How about some snow!!!!  My son (across the river in Washougal as you recall) says they got 12 inches!)

Deep snow was always referred to by my father ether as "hip deep to a tall Indian" (Of course, he was born only 32 years after Custer's last stand, and knew people who had served with Custer) or as "Axle deep to a Ferris wheel".

Regarding your greenhouse:  You might be interested in my Low Temperature Greenhouse Alarm System.  You can see it at http://www.gardenendeavors.com/rack/Ghousetempalarm.html .  It has saved me several times since I had  a catastrophic plant loss in 1976.

We got 14" at the Portland airport which isn't far from my house which is only a half an hour from Washougal. We were stuck for a week it was so deep on our street. Bob had to be towed from around the corner in his chained up dual wheel van.

You have the best gadgets. I'll take a look. Thanks  o(:-)

Lee Anne,

My web page had an error in the schematic and one part, which I have corrected.  I was copying from a pencil drawing i made back in 1977 and left out an important part, that being the feature that causes the alarm to sound if power goes out in the house.  Please discard any copies you made of the original and replace with the new.

No problem, hadn't got that far yet.

Went out to the greenhouse yesterday and the door was wide open. Good grief. My electric bill is going to be out of sight.

The good news is that with an aquarium heater in the pond, the tropical waterlilies are still alive. Not really growing and certainly not blooming but alive. So far.

I need lights but haven't managed to buy them yet. They are so expensive.

LeeAnne,
Glad to hear that your tropicals are still alive but not so glad to hear that you are gonna have one heck of an electric bill!

Electric bill was over $200, normally over $100. We have gas heat.
